A Beast by Any Other Name … Is Still a Beast

Good and evil; war and peace; light and darkness; pride and humility; right and wrong; unjust and just; truth and lies. Words of reverse meaning (antonyms) often provide more insight and impact than do words with similar meanings (synonyms). There’s nothing like comparison through stark contrast to grab our attention and heighten our understanding and appreciation for concepts at the extreme ends of a physical, moral, or spiritual spectrum. Even oxymoronic phrases such as, “Until hell freezes over,” serve a purpose, I suppose. In this instance to amplify the idea that some things just don’t go together … never have and never will.

Unlike hot and cold, there are many words that don’t have an antonym; but that’s no problem. So if you’re against something like abortion (good for you), then how do you express your disagreement with just a one-word opposite?

Likewise, names of people in virtually every language carry with them a linguistic meaning (for example, my first and last name mean spear and flower, respectively); but ordinarily we don’t pair off names or groups of contrary names in order to compare or contrast the meaning of those names. With one universal exception:

Christ … Antichrist.

As we all know, anti means against and/or in place of. In the English language there are hundreds of words that allow the prefix, anti, in order to convey the exact opposite. Such as anti-abortion.

What better way for the Bible to accentuate the ultra-antithesis of the true Christ (Messiah) than to tag his evil counterpart—who was born in the first century a few years after Jesus ascended to heaven—with the name (that says it all) of Antichrist. For that is exactly what he was and will be again upon his return as the beast from the Abyss.

Yet, before the Apostle John coined the term Antichrist in the first century, both the Prophet Daniel and the Apostle Paul described this infamous man with other titles. When we understand the reason for Scripture’s different names of Antichrist and the context of those passages, then we will better comprehend that the future Antichrist is also the (past) historical ruler, king, and man of lawlessness.

In last week’s article, we examined Daniel’s appellations of little horn and king … then continuation of king as found in Revelation Chapters 13 & 17. This week we will scrutinize another descriptive term by Daniel in his prophecy of a coming Ruler, whose armies would destroy Jerusalem and the Temple; this same ruler would then orchestrate a seven-year treaty with Israel that is a catalyst to the Great Tribulation. Equally significant: To recognize that there is an extraordinary (what is now a lengthy) interlude announced by Daniel between the destruction of the Temple and the seven-year treaty. But it’s still the same ruler involved in these two events, already separated by nearly 2000 years! Then Paul’s phenomenal present tense exposure of this wicked ruler called by Paul, The Man of Lawlessness.

Third Title: Ruler

“After this period of sixty-two sets of seven, the Anointed One will be killed, appearing to have accomplished nothing, and a ruler will arise whose armies will destroy the city and the Temple. The end will come with a flood, and war and its miseries are decreed from that time to the very end. The ruler will make a treaty with the people for a period of one set of seven, but after half this time, he will put an end to the sacrifices and offerings. And as a climax to all his terrible deeds, he will set up a sacrilegious object that causes desecration, until the fate decreed for this defiler is finally poured out on him” (Daniel 9:26-27).

Bible scholars have astutely and accurately identified the Anointed One as Jesus who, to the very day when he rode into Jerusalem and was hailed as Messiah, fulfilled precisely the 483 year prophetic time-clock of Messiah’s appearance as predicted in verses 24 and 25 of this chapter. Then Daniel tells us that after Messiah is killed, appearing to have accomplished nothing, a ruler would arise….

The Hebrew word translated ruler in the New Living Translation just quoted, and rendered prince in, for example, the New American Standard Bible is: Nagiyd. (Pronounced, naw-gheed). The English translations of prince, overseer, or ruler (in various capacities) correctly reflect the original Hebrew word. Clearly conveyed, however, is that the term prince or ruler is a generic designation, in contrast to a more position-specific title such as King. Although several languages use the positional title Prince to identify a particular historical ruler, the term prince is more frequently employed to simply label someone in authority in any number of administrative or nobility positions. And, of course, ruler is an all-purpose term that can refer to just about any person of prestige or power.

Daniel’s first vision of the Antichrist was that of a Little Horn in Daniel Chapter Seven; also a general description as the primary emphasis was that of his proud boasting against God from a platform of authority recognized and accepted by the world at large (as subsequently confirmed by Revelation Chapter 13). But then switched to a king who would suddenly appear in a specific sphere of influence; that he would rule over ten already established kings/nations during the Tribulation.

Yet in Daniel’s portrayal of the Antichrist as recorded in Chapter 9, he wouldn’t have known, nor did the Angel Gabriel disclose to him the exact title of what would later be a Roman ruler or even more definitive, a Roman Caesar. Thus, the angel utilizes the term of ruler which is a title anyone in Daniel’s time (or any time of history) would easily grasp.

Sometimes a prophecy given by God to one of his prophets will be spectacularly specific, such as naming Cyrus some 150 years before he was even born to be the Persian King, who would allow the Jews to return to Israel. Most often, however, Scripture provides just enough information to get the attention of those alive when the prophecy is given, then dramatically captures the focus of those alive when the prophecy is fulfilled.

Between the former and the latter, anyone who possesses any degree of anticipation, expectation, or intrigue is soon full of enthusiasm when the prophesied person appears or the event unfolds. Its like: WOW, this is actually happening in our lifetime. Which is exactly the positive response of many when Messiah Jesus was born in Bethlehem of a Virgin, then thousands more when Christ miraculously arose from the dead; and the equally negative reaction of Christians during Nero’s reprehensible reign as Caesar.

I believe God does this on purpose for our benefit. He wants us to take the time and effort to carefully observe and match the historical event to a long-ago Biblical prophecy; to better appreciate the intricacies of both the prediction and its accomplishment. But also to validate Scripture’s claim that the God of the Bible is the ONLY true and living God … through the miracle of fulfilled prophecy.

The Ruler is Nero

That this ruler is none other than Nero is extensively documented in my book, Out of the Abyss, by, as alluded to in last week’s article, dissecting and then correlating first century history to all Biblical references of Antichrist, none more so than this passage in Daniel Chapter 9.

nero (2)

In order to maintain the hypothesis of a revived Roman Empire proposed by many students of prophecy (which is based on the improper substitution of the English word kingdoms for the Greek word for kings in Revelation 17 and disregarding the personal pronouns used for these kings and the 8th king who is one of the seven kings … five who were already dead, one reigning, and the seventh to come, whose reign would be very brief), the Roman Legions (armies of Daniel 9) are linked to this ruler, who is perceived as a modern-day born man, even though doing so stretches this linkage to the breaking point. In other words, the ruler and his armies (Roman legions) are most assuredly coupled, but this connective association actually took place in the first century.

As we shall see, this prince would arise shortly after Messiah Jesus was crucified, as opposed to what would now be a totally impractical and illogical time-lapse of nearly 2000 years. It’s essential that we grasp the grammar and syntax of exactly what Daniel is relaying to us in Chapter 9.

Once again we read, “…The Anointed One (Messiah) will be killed, appearing to have accomplished nothing, and a ruler will arise whose armies will destroy the city and the Temple…” (Daniel 9:26a, italics for emphasis). Two things jump from the pages of this startling prediction:

(1) The possessive pronoun “whose” (armies) grammatically and prophetically bind the ruler to the actual armies that would destroy Jerusalem and the Second Temple. This fateful prophecy was agonizingly realized in 70 AD when the Roman Legions utterly demolished the Temple and destroyed much of Jerusalem, killing hundreds of thousands of Jews. The indisputable historical evidence clearly shows that this cruel campaign to crush the Jews had been ordered by Nero in 66-67 AD; moreover, he hand-picked the two Roman Generals who carried out his orders—Vespasian and Titus.

(2) The sequential syntax of the passage yields the unambiguous conclusion that the ruler would arise (shortly) after Christ (the Anointed One) was killed (on the Cross); as opposed to what is now a 2000-year gap between the Roman Legions that demolished the Temple and what is supposed to be a modern-day man (Antichrist) who would have absolutely no connection whatsoever to those legions. The text stipulates that the ruler would arise during the time when Messiah’s death appeared to have accomplished nothing. From my book, Out of the Abyss:

If the ruler is a modern-day man, then this verse doesn’t fit. Worse, the first part of the verse is simply inaccurate. What am I saying? I am saying that … we can look back some 2000 years and clearly see the monumentally astounding accomplishments of Christianity. Yet Daniel 9:26 effectively tells us that the ruler will sequentially rise to power during the time that Messiah’s death “appears” to have accomplished nothing. In other words, the ruler would arise fairly soon after Messiah is killed.

Nero was born just three to four years after Christ died, and he ruled as Emperor just two-three decades (later) … Christianity was still in its infancy. To the populace of Israel, the Roman Empire and world at large, the tragic death of Jesus of Nazareth seemed to have accomplished very little. To Jewish Zealots, Jesus’s death accomplished absolutely nothing … It took several centuries for Christians and the secular world to comprehend the increasing influence that the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ had exerted on the world. (Pages 256-257).

Rev%20Part%2010.1%20-%20Emperors

Concerning the real-time 1st century correlation between the prince/ruler and the people or armies that destroyed the Temple, I explained in Out of the Abyss:

The Hebrew word for people … means people(s) people of a nation, members of one’s people, kinsman, or compatriots … invariably when relating people to a nation, king, ruler, or to God, the word is employed in the logical and sensible Scriptural context of possessive, immediate, or generational relationship….

I go on to say that the people of the prince or ruler that Daniel foretells, … includes all of the prince’s country-men; but more exactly it was the armies (Roman Legions) of this people that fulfilled the prophecy…. But whose armies are they? Whose people are they? If you study the text carefully, there is a clear possessive correlation between the ruler and the armies or the people…. Whose is possessive, meaning those armies or people specifically belonging to that particular ruler…. The people directly affiliated, associated, or united with the prince destroyed the Temple.

Then a few paragraphs later: Where have you ever read or seen or thought that a ruler of any era would be connected to armies or people hundreds or thousands of years earlier. All monarchs, both in Biblical and secular history, are linked directly with the armies of that particular time of the ruler’s life.

And, as indicated, whenever the Hebrew word “am” (meaning people) is used throughout the Old Testament in conjunction with a ruler and a people, it is used to specify an immediate, real-time connection between the leader/nation and the people belonging to that leader… Why, then, should Gabriel and Daniel mean a far-off, time-warped differential between the Roman Legions and a prince that wouldn’t arrive on the scene for what is now a nearly two-thousand year gap? (Pages 254-256).

Daniel goes on to explain that the same ruler whose armies would destroy the Temple would then make a treaty with Israel, which is the Biblical passage specifying that the Tribulation is for a period of seven years. But before Daniel announces this seven-year treaty and the ruler’s violation of the treaty half way through, we have one remarkable interval between the end of verse 26 and the beginning of verse 27 that many Bible scholars have overlooked, missed, or dismissed (in terms of its chronological impact). There’s no doubt in the syntax structure of verses 26 & 27, that the decisive events described are sequential. I repeat: no doubt whatsoever; if for no other reason that the connecting words and the logical progression of occurrences are given in a specific order.

Here’s what the text says: “…whose armies will destroy the city and the Temple. The end will come with a flood, and war and its miseries are decreed from that time to the very end. The ruler will make a treaty with the people…” (Daniel 9:26b, 27a, italics for emphasis). I’ve italicized the crucial interim period of time that clearly separates the (now) historical sacking of Jerusalem in 70 AD from the yet-to-come seven-year Tribulation treaty engineered by the SAME ruler whose armies destroyed the city and the Temple.

The end will come … war its miseries from that time to the very end is expressive apocalyptic language to describe the Great Tribulation.

This is absolutely astonishing, and can only be truly apprehended and appreciated by realizing that the ruler (Nero) whose armies destroyed the Temple will also be the same ruler who will mesmerize the entire world by his astounding return from the Abyss; which will enable him to strike a treaty with Israel at the outset of the Tribulation, then break this treaty in 3 ½ years followed by an all-out onslaught against Israel and the tribulation saints for another 3 ½ years.

Thus, even without Revelation 17 which clearly and emphatically tells us that the 8th king (the Antichrist scarlet beast) is from the seven and had lived and died before John even saw this beast-king; history itself validates Daniel’s incredible prophecy that the armies of, controlled by, and subsequently ordered to crush the Jewish rebellion belonged to none other than the Roman Emperor, Nero. Combining Revelation 17 with Daniel 9 (and also Daniel 7), we have not one, but two historical and irrefutable proofs that the future tense ruler of Daniel’s prophecies became the first century PAST TENSE king-beast ruler known as Nero.

Fourth Title: Man of Lawlessness

But there’s more! Not just future tense and past tense, but a PRESENT TENSE (right then and there as it was happening) expose of the fifth Roman Emperor by the Apostle Paul, who labeled him the man of lawlessness. Once again for sake of time/space in these three articles on the names of Antichrist, we must summarize in crash course fashion another chapter from Out of the Abyss (Refer to Chapter 21 for many more facts and details). Beginning with the riveting passage:

“…For that day will not come until there is a great rebellion against God and the man of lawlessness is revealed—the one who brings destruction … He will even sit in the temple of God, claiming that he himself is God. Don’t you remember that I told you about all this when I was with you? And you know what is holding him back, for he can be revealed only when his time comes. For this lawlessness is already at work secretly, and it will remain secret until the one who is holding it back steps out-of-the-way. Then the man of lawlessness will be revealed, but the Lord Jesus will kill him with the breath of his mouth and destroy him by the splendor of his coming” (II Thessalonians 2:3-8).

In this abbreviated review of the man later called Antichrist and the beast (of Revelation), we need to concentrate on the present tense grammar and the obvious implications thereof; to both the man of lawlessness and the secrecy of the lawlessness (that he was part of) that was being restrained or held back at the very time that Paul wrote this letter to the Church at Thessalonica.

First, a brief historical context: Paul wrote II Thessalonians in 51-52 AD, and the Temple of Jerusalem was very much intact. Believers expected that the desecration that Daniel, Jesus, and Paul spoke of would take place in none other than Herod’s Temple, in their very near future. In fact, it’s abundantly clear throughout the entire New Testament, especially from the Apostle Paul, that the Christians at that time fully expected Jesus to return any hour of any day. The “imminent return of Christ” was more alive and real in the first century that it has been ever since, with the possible exception of today’s passionate hope that his return is very near.

It’s just that the Holy Spirit had not revealed to Paul that the desecration of the Temple would take place in a 3rd rebuilt Temple, to replace Herod’s Temple that would be destroyed less than twenty years after Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians.

But I’m convinced that the Holy Spirit had disclosed to Paul the identity of this man of lawlessness, even though Paul could not and would not refer to the man by name … upon penalty of death and intense persecution of Christians, which would have begun as soon as Nero unlawfully ascended the throne, if not before. In fact, later in Nero’s reign, tens of thousands of Christians were murdered and both Paul and Peter were executed. Nero was subsequently “revealed” as the man of lawlessness, but not yet as the Beast-king. Nero’s future (resumed) fulfillment of his anti-Christ agenda would not fully materialize until the Day of the Lord had begun … precipitated first by the Rapture, then shortly followed by his (the beast-king’s) return from the Abyss.

How can we know with absolute certainty that Paul was referring to this man of lawlessness (who we know is one and the same as the little horn, ruler, king, and would be (later) called Antichrist and the Beast) as one who was already alive on planet Earth; as opposed to some far-off unborn ruler who would initiate a great rebellion against God?

Before answering that question, let’s also be reminded that Nero did exactly that. Not before Nero instigated and personally supervised a savage vendetta against Christians at the hands of an entire empire or until Nero resumes the rebellion during the Great Tribulation, has there ever been such brutality on this scale. Against the Jews as a race and nation, yes; but not against people from all races, nations, and languages, so identified because of their belief in the substitutionary death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus as their Messiah. Ironically, Nero’s direct participation in this first century persecution of Christians lasted about 3 ½ years, the same period of time that his diabolical revolt against God, and torture and death of Christians and Jews will last during the Great Tribulation.

The following is how we can irrefutably conclude that Paul was telling us exactly who the man of lawlessness was and would be, without actually stating his name. Once again let’s read the words, this time from the New American Standard Bible: “And you know what restrains him now, so that in his time he will be revealed … only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way” (II Thessalonians 2:6-7, italics for emphasis).

Who or What Holds Back the Man of Lawlessness & the Secrecy of the Lawlessness?

These active present tense verbs and modifiers clearly convey and confirm the premise that all this was taking place before and when Paul wrote this letter to the Thessalonians. Here is another excerpt from Out of the Abyss to reinforce this premise:

According to Paul, the restrainer “is” (at that time) holding the lawless one back. This present tense application is augmented by the fact that what restrains is holding “him now.” Not later, not in some distant future, but right then and there while Paul informed the believers. Paul obviously is not referring to a man who hadn’t even been born yet. Nor does the text state or imply that the man of lawlessness is currently restrained from being born; in fact that would make no sense whatsoever.

Think about it. How could or why would the man be restrained if he wasn’t already alive? If Paul was referring to this man in the future tense (not what the man would do … that was still future), he would have said, “and you know what will hold him back.” The present tense grammar of the text yields a convincing conclusion; this man of lawlessness was already being held in check.

Newsflash: Nero became emperor in 54 AD, but Claudius Caesar and his wife, Agrippina (Nero’s mother), were already touting Nero as successor when Paul wrote I and II Thessalonians. Furthermore, all of Rome knew that Nero would not be a lawful successor to the crown. Romans had already prided themselves and their empire as the first and greatest law and order society in history. And, as we saw earlier: Paul wrote II Thessalonians in 51-52 AD. That’s a bit more than coincidental, don’t you think? (Page 191).

antichrist

Today’s contemporary application of these verses is that the Holy Spirit is the restrainer and that he restrains evil, but that is not what the passage is telling us. For one thing, the Greek word for lawlessness is different from the Greek words used for evil or wickedness in the New Testament. The Greek word for lawlessness is anomia, which means contempt for or violation of law—Biblical laws, moral laws, and civil laws. Found only fifteen times in the New Testament, the word conveys a more exclusive, or specific expression of evil, the very kind that Paul said was taking place. In fact, Paul said, “this lawlessness is already at work secretly, and it will remain secret until the one who is holding it back steps out of the way.”

Before that, Paul referred to the restrainer as “what is holding him back.” The him of this verse is the man of lawlessness and the what (as clearly explained in Out of the Abyss) was the Roman government including the Senate that represented the people, and to a lesser extent the Roman legions. Moreover, the Holy Spirit is NEVER referred to by a neutral or impersonal pronoun anywhere in Scripture; rather, the Holy Spirit is always referred to by the personal pronoun, he or him. Why then would Paul even remotely imply that the pronoun what of this passage is the Holy Spirit? Yet, that is the (mistaken) association by many scholars, i.e. that this impersonal pronoun substitution (what) is the Holy Spirit, himself.

Furthermore, why would Paul be reluctant to identify or enunciate the name of the Holy Spirit in this context; when non-believing Romans or Greeks would have been oblivious to something or someone called the Holy Spirit? When, in fact, Paul often mentioned the Holy Spirit throughout his epistles, and even references the Holy Spirit in verse thirteen of this same chapter in II Thessalonians. It’s completely logical why Paul withheld the name of Nero, Claudius, or Agrippina, all of whom were part of the lawless scheme to make Nero the next Emperor. But no reason at all for Paul to evasively disguise the Holy Spirit as the impersonal (force) that was holding the man of lawlessness in check until the secrecy of this lawlessness was fully exposed (later in 54 AD).

The lawlessness Paul cited in this passage was the Machiavellian-style political intrigue and covert maneuvers underway through what would later become a (successful) conspiracy by Nero’s mother Agrippina to assassinate her husband, the Roman Emperor Claudius—which would pave the way for Nero to become Caesar.

Please, read the passage again: The lawlessness itself was not being held back; instead it was the secrecy of that lawlessness … known only by a select few including Paul, to whom it had been revealed. Thus it was the Roman system of law and government (what) that was holding Nero (temporarily) in check; which enabled Claudius Caesar (as long as he was on the throne) to hold back or (inadvertently) suppress the secrecy of what was unlawfully being planned by his wife and step-son Nero. But when the one who “now restrains” was taken out of the way, the clandestine, hush-hush, anarchistic plot would no longer be concealed. This lawlessness would and did rear its ugly head when Agrippina poisoned Claudius, and Nero succeeded him as Emperor.

As summarized in Out of the Abyss:

Obviously Claudius wanted Nero to succeed him, but certainly not as a result of Claudius being toppled from power by anyone, let alone his wife, Agrippina. Thus, Claudius was part of the scheme that would bypass his natural son’s right to the throne in favor of his step-son Nero. Little did Claudius realize that this plot would thicken with Agrippina’s lawless sub-plot to prematurely take him out of the picture, to remove him from power by revealing her true intention—that of Nero’s immediate unlawful ascension to the throne. (Page 201).

Things to Ponder

Next weeks’ article, the final part of this trilogy, will elaborate on the remaining two names: Antichrist and The Beast. To further expand on how these two designations (alongside the man of lawlessness) comprehensively represent the composite Antichrist, i.e. body, soul, and spirit of this depraved human being.

For all those who really want to accurately determine the identity of Antichrist, I am completely convinced that God wants us to know just as the early Christians knew, especially through the 5th century AD. That Nero was this man of lawlessness, the ruler, and the king (Roman Caesar) who had died; but would one day return from the Abyss as the (little horn) beast to continue his Antichrist reign of terror … but on a truly global scale.

We need to know these things before the Rapture takes place, so that many left behind will not be so amazed at a False Messiah … Nero’s returns from the underworld.

We need to know, before we go!

A Beast by Any Other Name … Is Still a Beast

“A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” So why not use the first part of this famous line from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet as the actual title of this article? Answer: Because the beast is none other than the infamous Antichrist; and it’s too much of a spiritual and moral compromise to metaphorically equate this evil man to a rose … for that matter even to a weed!

If you were asked to designate the Antichrist by another Biblical alias or term, would you be able to pick one, or two, or four? Although the label Antichrist is known all over the world, including hundreds of millions of unbelievers, I would dare say that even many believers would be hard-pressed to come up with three or more of these Biblical names, other than the most familiar one … Antichrist.

Another question: Does it really make a difference what name we use to identify this notorious man? It all depends on how much we truly want to know what Scripture wants us to know. If we merely want to refer to him as the one who will be an (the) anti-Christ and a counterfeit Messiah during the Great Tribulation, then Antichrist will do just fine. But if we really wish to understand more than just the future of this terrible tyrant, if we are curious whether he has a past which also requires a present (tense) existence at one point in history; then we must carefully examine each of the Biblical names given to him. If, indeed, we actually desire to exercise the wisdom called for and needed (Revelation 13:18) in order to ascertain the accurate identity of this nefarious man, then we need to comprehend that different titles were given to him for that very purpose?

Those who have read my book, Out of the Abyss … can the number of the Beast be solved, 666; as well as several prior Eye of Prophecy articles on this subject, already know that the Antichrist has been identified as the Roman Emperor, Nero. Furthermore, this astonishing conclusion is not based whatsoever on the Preterist view; because the Preterists erroneously contend that the book of Revelation, including the Tribulation period (which is most of the book), took place in the first century. That argument has been soundly refuted by astute Bible scholars for a number of reasons, not the least of which is because the Tribulation has not yet taken place. There’s simply no way to symbolically equate (what will be) the literal seal, trumpet, and bowl judgments of Revelation with first century events.

nero

What the Preterists completely missed, and what I (at one time) and many other students of prophecy have misunderstood is that the beast of Revelation had already lived and died BEFORE John was given the amazing revelation of the beast (Antichrist). Moreover, John was told that the beast would reappear from the Abyss! This extraordinary emergence would stun the world as most of those left behind after the Rapture would (logically) see Nero’s return from the grave as a supernatural event.

“I saw that one of the heads of the beast seemed wounded beyond recovery—but the fatal wound was healed! The whole world marveled at this miracle and gave allegiance to the beast” (Revelation 13:3).

In support of this incredible conclusion (as to his identity) I carefully examined EVERY Scripture passage that deals with this infamous man. Indeed, the main purpose for sharing this disclosure and discernment in Out of the Abyss and in some Eye of Prophecy articles is so that (before and particularly after the Rapture) many will not be amazed … as they will realize that this man’s identity had been decoded and declassified long ago. That his sensational return from the grave (actually the Abyss) had been planned by the Lord who will allow Nero’s release from the Abyss, which will delude billions into believing the lie that they want to believe in the first place.

“So God will cause them to be greatly deceived, and they will believe these lies. Then they will be condemned for enjoying evil rather than believing the truth” (II Thessalonians 2:11-12).

The purpose of this article and the next two articles is to expand this evidence, by explaining the contextual reasons for Scripture’s allusions to Antichrist with more than just one title. To realize that the Antichrist is not just a future tyrant—a perceived modern-day man born in the generation that will experience the Tribulation. Instead, to fully grasp that the diverse Biblical references to this despicable despot clearly demonstrate sequentially that he had a future, then a present, then a past, and then (will be given) another (brief) future (appearance) on this earth.

These trilogy of articles will be a crash course that we might call: Names of Antichrist 101. Once again, because the vast majority of both unbelievers and believers know this wicked ruler as Antichrist, that will be the primary appellation employed throughout these articles. Ironically, however, the designation of Antichrist is the least used term for this man found in the Bible, and is not found at all in the two most end-times (tribulation) prophetic books of Scripture: Daniel and Revelation.

First Title: Little Horn

The very first reference to Antichrist can be found in the book of Daniel: “Then in my vision that night, I saw a fourth beast—terrifying, dreadful, and very strong … It was different from any of the other beasts, and it had ten horns. As I was looking at the horns, suddenly another small horn appeared among them. Three of the first horns were torn out by the roots to make room for it. This little horn had eyes like human eyes and a mouth that was boasting arrogantly” (Daniel 7:7-8).

If you recall the Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream of the terrifying statue (Daniel Chapter 2), then Daniels’s vision of the four beasts, followed chronologically by the (now) historical emergence of the four (and only four) world empires depicted in these visions, then you know that the first three kingdoms are Babylon, Persia, and Greece. With the fourth most dreadful and mighty empire of all … the ancient Roman Empire.

Later in this same chapter, Daniel tells us more about this little horn. “…This horn had seemed greater than the others (meaning the other ten horns of the fourth beast), and it had human eyes and a mouth that was boasting arrogantly. As I watched, this horn was waging war against God’s holy people and was defeating them, until the Ancient One—the Most High—came and judged in favor of his holy people. Then the time arrived for the holy people to take over the kingdom” (Daniel 7:20-22).

This passage coupled with Revelation Chapter 13 shows distinctly that these things are taking place at the outset and then throughout the Great Tribulation. Daniel’s choice of a descriptive tag for this man, small horn with human eyes and a mouth that boasted arrogantly (then later just horn), conveys the following: (1) the term horn signifies authority and power, but when given human eyes and a boastful mouth, it specifically tells us that the predominate characteristics of this man is that of conceited boasting against God and God’s people, i.e. Jews and Christians Jews and Gentiles during the tribulation.

(2) This is the same expressive language used by John in Revelation 13, which was his first vision of this man. “And he spoke terrible words of blasphemy against God, slandering his name and his temple—that is, those who live in heaven (meaning Christians who have been raptured just before the tribulation begins). And the beast was allowed to wage war against God’s holy people and to conquer them…” (Revelation 13:6-7).

What I have often said before bears repeating: Nowhere in Daniel 7 or Revelation 13 (or in any other Biblical passages about this man) do we read that he is a political, military, administrative, or economic genius that possesses charismatic statesmanship or oratorical skills that enable him to persuade people the world over. Instead, he is an arrogant, boastful tyrant who blasphemes God from the very beginning. Although both religious (from non-Christian religions) and irreligious unbelievers often attack (verbally and physically) Christians, seldom do they rant, rave, and rail against Almighty God, mostly out of fear and/or some measure of respect. But here we have a man who has “miraculously” reappeared from the grave that billions of people will believe to be God.

Thus, they will have no problem endorsing his blasphemous boasts against the true and living God. In fact, most will join their self-appointed god and curse the real God despite knowing full well that he is the righteous and just God who is judging the earth. “…and they cursed the name of God, who had control over all these plagues. They did not repent of their sins and turn to God and give him glory” (Revelation 16:9).

This first introduction to Antichrist shows us his true character from the very beginning of his reappearance … that he blows his own horn with an unholy, ungodly blast against the true and living God.

cuarta-bestia

Once again we read, “…suddenly another small horn appeared among them…” (Daniel 7:8)

Daniel employs the modifier “sudden” because that’s exactly how Antichrist will initially appear to the world … from the Abyss (Revelation 17) which is in/under the Sea from where the beast arises (Revelation 13). As opposed to the other ten kings and their kingdoms (nations) who are already well-known and established, this little horn springs up abruptly. A modern-day phrase would be, “He came out of nowhere.”

There’s a reason for EVERY WORD found in Scripture; and the adverb suddenly is no exception. In fact it’s crucial in this particular text toward full realization that the horn (later called beast in Revelation) suddenly appears, unlike a leader already entrenched in an influential political, administrative, and/or military position. The contemporary portrayal of Antichrist as a modern-day man who, after the Rapture, will rise in prominence by asserting and expanding already established credentials—whether from within the United Nations, European Union, or some other high-profile national or international position—does not track at all with a swift unexpected arrival to a world already dazed by the removal of hundreds of millions from the earth. And certainly not with the little horn’s reappearance as the beast of Revelation who had already lived, died, but would return again after the Rapture.

Second Title: King (Passage #1- Daniel 7)

At Daniel’s request, “one of those standing beside the throne” explained to Daniel the meaning of his vision including, “…This fourth beast is the fourth world power that will rule the earth … Its ten horns are ten kings … Then another king will arise, different from the other ten, who will subdue three of them. He will defy the Most High and oppress the holy people of the Most High… (Daniel 7:23-25).

To confirm that the small horn who seemed greater than the other horns would be a powerful figure to whom the other ten kings would yield their allegiance and kingdoms, Daniel is told that this man would, in fact, be a king … a second title assigned to the Antichrist. But this king would be different from the other ten. If you do a complete study of Antichrist (as is done in Out of the Abyss) it’s clear what makes this eleventh king in Daniel 7 totally unlike the other ten. Two things stand out: One is his origin; the other is found in the very meaning of different.

(1) He is a king directly from the fourth world empire of Rome. Please remember: Because some 2000 years have elapsed, we (for that obvious reason) classify this fourth kingdom in Daniel as the ancient Roman Empire. But when Daniel recorded this vision, it was equally obvious that this fourth (along with the 2nd & 3rd kingdoms of Persia and Greece) kingdom was a future empire which (historically) would emerge some five hundred years later.

Essentially, these ten tribulation kings are extensions of the fourth beast (the ten toes of Nebuchadnezzar’s statue); not a separate beast or kingdom … meaning not a so-called Revived Roman Empire; because there are four and only four world empires seen by Daniel. What makes the tribulation alliance between the Antichrist and the ten kings a weakened extension of the fourth world empire is the Antichrist himself. More specifically it is who and what the Antichrist is, and when and where the Antichrist originates that connects the tribulation coalition with the fourth world empire. It is the fact that the king (Antichrist) is a Revived Roman Emperor!

(2) Most remarkably, what makes the Antichrist (king) different from the other ten kings is best, I think, clarified by the following excerpt from Out of the Abyss:

Especially as utilized in the context (of Daniel 7), the word itself is too strong to suggest an intrinsic variation, such as being a more polished, captivating, charismatic, or powerful leader … Different denotes difference, in all that the word means and implies.

I think this is important enough to refer to Webster’s Dictionary. Different is, “partly or totally unlike in nature, form, or quality … dissimilar (could hardly be more). Not the same as … distinct, unusual, special, diverse, divergent, and disparate. Unlike in kind or character … implies marked contrast.”

That my friend is “different,” and it yields a comprehensive, composite explanation of the fundamental contrast between Antichrist and the ten kings … What specifically is that difference? I’m glad you asked!

The one thing that makes Antichrist different from the other ten kings is that he is a living miracle, and they are not.

He has arisen from the underworld, and they have not. The ten kings have a birth certificate, but the Antichrist does not. Nor will anyone, including crime scene forensic investigators be able to prove that he had died a short time before he arose, as there will be no autopsy or death certificate; nor any fingerprint records or dental records, nor any evidence of a crime scene, nor a coroner’s report, nor a coffin or a grave.

We must remember the shocking fact announced by the angelic messenger: Antichrist died before John received the Revelation of Jesus Christ. Therefore, his initial sudden appearance to a Post-Rapture world will be from the dead, which makes him dramatically different from the ten kings. There’s no way the beast can or will be born during the generation that experiences the Day of the Lord. (Out of the Abyss, pages 185-186).

Second Title: King (passage #2- Daniel 11)

For sake of time/space in this article, will simply say that Antichrist is again referred to as a king in this passage, specifically, the King of the North; but also with unmistakable reference to many of the Great Tribulation exploits of this king, some of which are similar to the initial prototype of Antichrist—which is the 2nd century BC Greek-Syrian ruler, Antiochus IV.

Second Title: King (passage #3- Revelation 17)

Revelation 13 is the first disclosure of the Beast, but without any reference to the (Antichrist) beast being a king, because the primary emphasis is that of the beast recovering from a deadly wound (rising from the grave) and the subsequent challenge for all readers of Revelation to (with wisdom and understanding) solve the meaning of the number of the beast. Which is tantamount to identifying exactly who the Beast is, when combined with more biographical and historical evidence presented in Chapter 17. Said the angel to John after John had witnessed this amazing beast upon which sat a woman (later identified as “the great city that rules over the kings of the world”): “Why are you so amazed? I will tell you the mystery of the woman and of the beast with seven heads and ten horns on which she sits. The beast you saw was once alive but isn’t now…” (Revelation 17:8, italics for emphasis).

whore_riding_beast2

The angel continues: “This calls for a mind with understanding: The seven heads of the beast represent the seven hills where the woman rules. (Rome) They also represent seven kings. Five kings have already fallen, the sixth now reigns, and the seventh is yet to come, but his reign will be brief. The scarlet beast that was, but is no longer, is the eighth king. He is like the other seven … The ten horns of the beast are ten kings who have not yet risen to power. They will be appointed to their kingdoms for one brief moment to reign with the beast. They will all agree to give him their power and authority” (Revelation 17:9-13).

Ek which also means one of, out of, or from is the Greek word used to tell us that this eighth king is (also) one of the seven; which, by default, means that he is one of the five who had already died because twice the angel told John that the beast once was, but is no longer (alive).

Did you catch that? Can it be any clearer that the first half of Revelation 17, through verse 11, provides a PAST TENSE biography of this beast-king? That is simply amazing and refits the prophetic puzzle with the correct piece that identifies the Antichrist.

Thus, the emphasis shifts from symbolic imagery of a beast seen by John on a Sunday on the Island of Patmos in the first century; to the angel’s explanation of this stunning vision of a beast with seven heads being seven kings; which, by the present-day (in the 1st century) context of this vision, were five former (now dead) Roman Caesars, one currently reigning, and one to come whose reign would be brief. In Out of the Abyss, I explain how all that works. And with ten horns, who the angel said were ten kings not yet appointed to their kingdoms, which discernibly refers to ten leaders and their nations during the Tribulation.

The ten kings that yield their kingdoms (nations) to the eighth king (Antichrist) will be specifically identified only after the Rapture; however, I’m convinced that these nations are in existence today. And it may surprise you that I’m equally convinced the United States of America is one of those nations, specifically one of the three that will be “subdued” by the (antichrist) king depicted by Daniel. But that’s another article for another day!

Once again, please refer to Out of the Abyss for several reasons why the seven kings of Revelation 17 are, in fact, kings and not kingdoms (as most modern scholars have classified them), not the least of which is the very Greek words used for kings and kingdoms. But also how and why the sequence of seven kings can and does fit three different historical options. The reason there are three options or possibilities depends upon when the book of Revelation was written and by whom. Yet, all three alternatives allow for the seven kings mentioned in this chapter to have reigned sequentially as clearly explained by the angel to John … five have fallen, one reigns, and the seventh’s reign will be brief.

When the book of Revelation was written and copies distributed throughout the Roman Empire, it’s inconceivable that the 1st century Christians wouldn’t have known the sequence and identity of the seven Roman Caesars (kings) mentioned by the angel to John. But when we look back 2000 years and now see that there were (historical hindsight) three pseudo-Emperors during the approximately 18 month civil war upheaval in which none of these three (Galba, Otho, and Vitellius) were really bona fide emperors, we have three options to choose from with regard to the historical chronological sequence of the seven kings. See Chapter 17 of Out of the Abyss, because space does not permit in this article; but any one of the three scenarios can thread seamlessly through the angel’s clarification of the seven kings.

Summary

In slight contrast to the more generic term ruler which we will cover next week in Daniel Chapter 9, the title-specific designation of king for the Antichrist indicates that he would be a sovereign monarch (in Roman times, an Emperor) who would also rule over other kings. In the ancient world that would have been kings of conquered nations that became part of the Roman Empire. In fact, Nero was so fond of one of these subjugated kingdoms (Greece) that he wrote and performed several dramatic plays in the Greek language. During the tribulation, it will be exactly ten kings and their nations.

Ancient world: Emperors or Kings. Modern world: Presidents or Prime Ministers. All prophetically identified as kings.

Incredibly, history unfolded Daniel’s future horn and king into a man portrayed as a beast-king by John, who subsequently lived and died … a prophesied past tense biography of the Antichrist (Nero, who died a few years before Revelation was written and whose name spelled out in Hebrew equals six hundred and sixty-six). But it doesn’t stop there. Revelation 17 also tells us that this same real-life king (Roman Caesar) symbolized first as a beast in John’s vision, would rule over the ten kings which are exclusively (in Daniel and Revelation) future tribulation kings!

Thus, the Antichrist king of Daniel 7, Daniel 11, and Revelation 17 is not and cannot be a modern man born in the generation of the Great Tribulation. Why? Because part of the angel’s unveiling of the mysterious beast in Revelation 17 is that the beast had already lived and died. Which, of course, means that he had already established a (dubious) legacy as one of the five kings who had fallen, but would amazingly return as the eighth king who was the composite scarlet beast itself.

The title for Antichrist of king is used in connection to the ten king/kingdom confederation that will serve him during the tribulation; but it also makes a phenomenal connection of this same tribulation king to an actual king that had lived and died (shortly) before John was given the spectacular visions as recorded in the book of Revelation. Which, in turn, further unseals the mysterious visions of Daniel that match those seen by John. This “miraculous” (as explained in Out of the Abyss, Nero’s revival and emergence from the Abyss is orchestrated and allowed by God) return from the grave is the one thing that will captivate the world’s attention and deceive them into believing that a Revived Roman Emperor is a god … even the true God.

Things to Ponder

Not until John the Apostle wrote his first epistle, is the alias Antichrist used in Scripture; which is the last or next-to-last title given to this despot. Yet, Daniel, Paul, and the author of Revelation all paint a vivid portrait of this man; employing various names that, if studied carefully and placed in the context of the future tense prophecies AND past tense fulfillment, help us to understand that this man was already Antichrist before he would return to wreak havoc on the earth as the beast-king during the Great Tribulation.

In next week’s article we will see that Daniel then refers to him as a ruler (a non-specific generic designation) who would arise in a specific chronological sequence after Messiah came to earth and was crucified. That this ruler’s armies destroyed Jerusalem and the Temple which happened in 70 AD. That this ruler is indisputably directly connected to the armies (Roman legions) that destroyed the Temple.

If we think of and refer only to the title of Antichrist (as the end-times tyrant of the Tribulation period), we think only in terms of a modern-day man and his rise to power; which is logical in terms of a more natural and normal rise to power of a contemporary figure. But inaccurate when we carefully examine the (now historical) PAST TENSE existence of this man, as profoundly, but plainly presented in these passages from Daniel and Revelation.

And the PRESENT TENSE description of Antichrist through the Apostle Paul’s reference to the man of lawlessness, just a few short years before Nero assumed the throne as Rome’s fifth emperor. This will also be discussed in next week’s article. Stay tuned!

The third and final article in this series will examine the 5th and 6th aliases assigned to this man … Antichrist and the Beast.

In summary, the six designations:

One World Government?

Will There Really Be a One-World Government?

Contrary to what has been a recurring theme for several decades promoted even by the best of Biblical scholars and teachers, I firmly believe there will be no such thing as a One-World Government, until Jesus Christ returns and establishes the majestic Kingdom of God on this earth. THEN there will be a divinely unified system of truth, justice, and peace never before experienced on this earth … the Millennial Reign of Messiah Jesus.

If you recognized this introductory paragraph, then thank you for reading the Eye of Prophecy article published just two weeks ago (2-14-15) entitled, A Sleeping Giant. This statement can be found in the last part of the article under the heading of, Things to Ponder. With some concluding remarks in that article which centered primarily on China and the Kings of the East taking on Antichrist during the Tribulation, the following questions were also posed:

How can there be a One-World Government (economically and militarily) unless ALL nations (at least the powerful ones) are part of that Government? Bible prophecy unequivocally tells us that the Antichrist and his ten-nation kingdom will have enemies, i.e. the king of the south and even more dangerous foes—the Eastern kings (and their kingdoms) who are giants awakened from international neutrality by a man who wants to conquer the Middle East and then the whole world.

If you have one multi-national force opposing another multi-national force, does that sound like a global world government or military to you? To me it sounds exactly like what happened before and during World War I and World War II; one bloc of nations conspiring and warring against another bloc of nations. Prior to the last day when Christ utterly vanquishes ALL the forces and armies of evil, Armageddon—by Biblical prophecy and historical precedence—will become World War III. With West pitted against East.

One more quote from that article: Notice the plural significance of the following passage when it comes to kings and nations contrasted to the typically taught premise of a one-world single unity type of government. Also take note that the only reference to a world-wide kingdom is none other than the Kingdom of God:

“During the reigns of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed or conquered. It will crush all these kingdoms into nothingness, and it will stand forever” (Daniel 2:44).

To reinforce the clear-cut Biblical evidence that many nations will still wield great power and prestige (as opposed to one giant conglomeration of countries belonging to a central government) upon the magnificent return of Christ to rescue Israel from annihilation and the world itself from total destruction, let’s look at another passage in Daniel.

Referring first to Antichrist at the end of the Great Tribulation, then the true Christ who will crush his antithesis, we read: “But then the court will pass judgment, and all his power will be taken away and completely destroyed. Then the sovereignty, power, and greatness of all the kingdoms under heaven will be given to the holy people of the Most High. His kingdom will last forever, and all rulers will serve and obey him” (Daniel 7:26-27).

I’m not sure how much clearer this passage, and others like it, could be. Once again notice that all kingdoms (plural … many … all) will still be (individually) powerful and sovereign right up to the time that the rulers (plural) of those nations yield their self-governing empires to Jesus Christ who establishes the Kingdom of the Most High God. With the clear connotation that the vast majority of nations will not merely be absorbed into a global governmental melting pot, in which they lose their identity and influence. However, individuals from races all over the world will (as we shall soon see) submit with blind loyalty to and worship of the one whose, “power will be taken away and completely destroyed.”

Christ will conquer all of the kingdoms (nations) of the earth that would dare do battle against the King of all kings. At the time of the final battle of Armageddon, these nations will consist of two main world alliances which will initially war against each other: the kings of the east versus the ten-nation confederation directed by Antichrist. Then these huge coalitions will join forces to do, “…battle against the Lord on that great judgment day of God the Almighty” (Revelation 16:14). But they are alliances, no different from the Allies of World War II (including the USA) doing battle against the Axis nations, headed by Hitler’s Germany. Even the three most prominent Allied leaders, Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin, had major differences during execution of various battle campaigns against the Axis powers; as well as disposition of Germany after the defeat of the Third Reich.

According to Daniel 7 and Revelation 17, during the Great Tribulation ten kings will yield their kingdoms to the little horn (Daniel) and the king-beast (Revelation), respective titles for the one called Antichrist. Naturally, this ten-nation league will be a formidable military and political union, but it will NOT be a global, world-wide kingdom as such. Once again, for emphasis: How could it be a one-world government when the King of the south and the Kings of the East will oppose it and set out to destroy Antichrist and his ten-nation coalition?

Future World Dictatorship/Dictator … Theory or Realty?

Question: Other than promoting a sensational conspiracy theory that so many people love to contemplate and investigate; from where, then, does the notion of an end time’s prophetic one-world political and/or religious system originate? Why has this idea been so predominate among even the best of prophecy scholars for several decades? To include the assumption that this global organization will be a Revived Roman Empire; or the fairly recent presumption of a Muslim (Imam) Antichrist and Islamic Caliphate ruling the world.

Answer: Almost exclusively from an inference based on the wording found in Revelation Chapter 13. But when we closely examine some critical verses in this chapter, we’ll see that the language describing those who give their allegiance to the beast (Antichrist) to the point of worship is actually, in form and substance, a counterfeit replica of the current Kingdom of Heaven—the true church comprised of people all over the world who have believed and received Messiah Jesus. That, in reality, the perceived global authority of the beast (Antichrist) is politically, militarily and economically limited to a ten-nation coalition, not a centralized universal government. In actuality, the beast largely exerts his influence on and through his followers from all races and ethnic groups who are sealed with the visible mark of the Beast much like the Holy Spirit invisibly seals all those in the family of God … born again believers.

When we grasp the significance of what is being said in these verses, we will better understand that the “kingdom” of Antichrist will be a federation of ten countries, NOT a duplication of the once mighty Roman Empire. Although (as documented with an abundance of Scriptural and historical evidence in my book, Out of the Abyss and several Eye of Prophecy articles) it will be headed by a Revived Roman Emperor!

The post-Rapture return of a first century Roman Emperor will give this ten-nation union that he leads an ancient Roman flavor and appearance, but only because of the Emperor himself; not because there will be a replication of the ancient Roman Empire. And certainly not a One-World Government. As powerful as the Roman Empire was for several hundred years, it never fully controlled the entire world, civilized or uncivilized.

What the Roman Emperor, Nero, will find upon his reappearance (return to the earth) from the Abyss will be a whole bunch of nations and people in shock from the removal of hundreds of millions from the earth (Rapture). He will not find anything whatsoever resembling the mighty Roman Empire in which he ruled as Emperor for fourteen years (54-68 AD). Nor does Scripture indicate that he will instantly or even gradually “revive” or reassemble or resurrect or reproduce the Roman Empire that he once knew. He simply won’t have time to do that, as he is essentially given only 3 ½ years to try to achieve his Satanic agenda. Instead, he will be given ten kings (Presidents or Prime Ministers in today’s terminology) and their nations over which to rule.

People from all nations will give their total allegiance to the beast, but not to the extent of all countries on earth yielding their national political and military administrations to the beast … with exception of the ten kings and the nations they lead.

A Misapplied or Misunderstood Passage That Led to the Premise of a One-World Government

“And the beast was allowed to wage war against God’s holy people and to conquer them. And he was given authority to rule over every tribe and people and language and nation. And all the people who belong to the world worshiped the beast…” (Revelation 13:7-8).

Semantics, syntax, and symmetry (comparing, balancing all passages of Scripture pertaining to a specific subject) are always significant in correctly understanding Scripture. It’s vitally important that we read this verse the way it is written (intended) without immediately jumping to the conclusion that the Antichrist beast will rule the entire world. If he did, then Scripture is essentially contradicting itself, which it never does.

Scripture unequivocally states that Antichrist (little horn in Daniel, beast-king in Revelation) rules over ten kings/kingdoms … not the whole world. The very existence of enemies from the kings/nations of the east is, by itself, enough to refute the idea of world-wide domination by the Antichrist. In fact, as alluded to in the recent article, A Sleeping Giant: by sheer population numbers, the eastern nations will far exceed the people that comprise the Antichrist’s ten-nation alliance.

Or, in the form of a question: If Scripture tells us four different times that Antichrist’s domain will consist of ten nations (Daniel Chapters 2 & 7; Revelation Chapters 13 & 17), then why would we expand that to include worldwide supremacy?

Revelation 13:7 tells us that the beast, “…was given authority to rule over every tribe and people and language and nation.” The preceding and clarifying phrase that is of paramount importance to this ruler ship is that of, “given authority” (to rule); meaning supreme authority if, in fact, he could/would successfully gain control of what we often refer to in modern terms as, the whole world … politically, militarily, and economically. There is a substantial distinction between the beast possessing (potential) authority to rule and actually accomplishing total domination over the entire world. Thus, we should not construe this verse to automatically mean that Antichrist will actually rule the earth through a universal government.

Read the verse again: It doesn’t say, “he will rule over every tribe…” Instead, he was given authority to rule over… Daniel Chapter 11 combined with Revelation 16 & 19 clearly indicate that Antichrist will be stopped cold in his tracks by Messiah Jesus before he (Nero) accomplishes his goal of world conquest.

But there’s even more compelling evidence to support my premise. It is found in the phrase itself, “over every tribe and people and language…” which is identical language ascribed to the true Messiah, Jesus Christ; but, of course, for a different purpose … for salvation of peoples the world over. Whereas, with Antichrist, it will be destruction for those (many but not all) who follow him because they believe in the lie that he is the Messiah and/or God.

Read these magnificent words with me: “You (Christ) are worthy to take the scroll and break its seals and open it. For you were slaughtered, and your blood has ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation” (Revelation 5:9, italics for emphasis). Does this verse mean that every person on earth will be saved by the blood of Christ? No, it is fundamentally telling us that the sacrificial blood of Christ has ransomed people from all races (tribes, languages, nations) in the world, but certainly not all people from all nations.

By actual results for the last 2000 years and continued throughout the Tribulation, only some (a minority) will experience his salvation; as confirmed by the very words of Jesus: “Enter by the narrow gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it” (Matthew 7:13-14, NKJV).

In that same context and with the same parallel meaning and application, there will be those from all over the world who will follow and even worship the beast, but certainly not everyone. There will be many who won’t take the mark of the Beast; who will instead choose (on pain of torture and death) Jesus Christ, the true Messiah.

In other words, there will be a host of Antichrist dissidents from every language and nation… individuals, communities, and entire national governments such as China who will reject Nero’s authority. If virtually all peoples and nations voluntarily surrendered their loyalty and lives to Antichrist, there would be no need for him to order everyone to take his mark for the purpose of separating and distinguishing them from those who oppose him. The mark is his name (Nero) or the number of his name (the Hebrew gematria number 666, which spells Nero). And there would, indeed, then be a One-World Antichrist dynasty.

Mark666

Why So Many Will Be Amazed at The Beast … The Real Source of His Influence?

What is it exactly that causes people from all languages, tribes, and nations to worship Antichrist and willingly take his mark?

“I saw that one of the heads of the beast seemed wounded beyond recovery—but the fatal would was healed! The whole world marveled at this miracle and gave allegiance to the beast. They worshiped the dragon (Satan) for giving the beast such power, and they also worshipped the beast. ‘Who is as great as the beast?’ they exclaimed. ‘Who is able to fight against him?’” (Revelation 13:3-4, italics for emphasis).

You think! Who could possibly kill or even fight against someone who had already died, and came back from the dead after 2000 years in the grave? What is it that the whole world will marvel at? Why will they give their total allegiance to the point of worshiping this man? The text is crystal clear: Because of the miracle recovery from a fatal wound (death). The entire sequence of events from the beginning of Nero’s reign, to his death at the orders of Jesus, himself, (II Thessalonians 2:8), to his revival from the dead and banishment to the abyss, to his reappearance from the Abyss … all this and more is covered in Out of the Abyss … can the number of the beast be solved, 666? Beginning with another astounding revelation of the Beast to John as contained in the following verse:

“The beast you saw was once alive but isn’t now. And yet he will soon come up out of the bottomless pit … And the people who belong to this world … will be amazed at the reappearance of this beast who had died” (Revelation 17:8).

Here is an excerpt from Out of the Abyss that provides a stark contrast to the contemporary notion of a modern-day Antichrist (as opposed to a man—Antichrist—who had already died when John saw the vision of the beast in the 1st century, but who would return from the Abyss) who is often portrayed as some brilliant mastermind, whose charismatic characteristics charm or compel billions to follow him:

“The Antichrist is not afforded blind worship because he is a superman in terms of being an accomplished statesman, orator, or leader. The False Prophet does that for him. The superhuman qualities accorded him will literally lie in his mystical return from death. Neither in Revelation Chapter 13 nor in Chapter 17 is there a direct description of the beast with regard to personality traits normally ascribed to anyone who can sway a lot of people to follow him.” (Page 182).

After referencing Daniel Chapter 7, I go on to say in my book: “We have additional language similar to Revelation, in that the beast arrives on the scene with arrogant boasting against God himself. Like Revelation 13 and 17, this passage in Daniel is also conspicuous for what it lacks, i.e. no hard evidence (statesmanship qualities) that the beast is other than an arrogant boastful tyrant who opposes God right out of the starting blocks. That is, right after he negotiates a treaty with Israel.” (Page 183).

Thus, the striking and predominant feature of Antichrist’s influence over the world will be exactly the same as the persuasive reason that millions down through the ages (and also during the tribulation) have accepted Jesus Christ … resurrection from the dead.

Restating the premise based on correlation of all Biblical passages relating to the subject: The Antichrist will not rule and reign over every person, or city, or state, or nation of the earth. There will not be a one-world government. Not even close. He will command a ten-nation coalition; albeit, one that will vainly seek control of the entire world. He will, however, exercise god-like influence over billions of people on the earth, who will willingly (some unwillingly due to threat of death) follow him; in the same vein (a false, counterfeit anti-Christ parallel) that millions love and follow Jesus Christ.

Just as the Kingdom of Heaven currently exists in the hearts and minds of those who have believed and received Jesus Christ as their personal Savior, so will the kingdom of Antichrist Nero be primarily in the minds, hearts, and skin (literally from the mark of the beast) of all those who are utterly amazed at his return from the grave. (Actually the abyss, but the world will think only in terms of resurrection from the dead that they believe Nero, himself, accomplished—when in reality it is Christ who releases him from the Abyss to join Satan in this great end-times rebellion against God).

More Evidence from Similar Bible Passages

Let’s look at another verse that uses this same descriptive phrase: “And I saw another angel flying through the sky, carrying the eternal Good News to proclaim to the people who belong to this world—to every nation, tribe, language, and people. ‘Fear God,’ he shouted. ‘Give glory to him. For the time has come when he will sit as judge. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and all the springs of water” (Revelation 14:6-7, italics for emphasis).

This is incredible. The time is so short and the need so great, that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is now (after the seal and trumpet judgments and just prior to the final devastating seven bowl judgments) proclaimed by an angel flying throughout the entire earth. In addition to salvation, the angel is imploring the same people whom the Antichrist will seek to rule to acknowledge the one true living God. It would seem that the angel is especially targeting evolutionists and agnostics, when he reminds the world who actually made the heavens, the earth and everything in/on the earth!

But we reach the same logical result with the same reasonable conclusion: The unmistakable meaning in this passage and others that reference all or every people, language, tribe, or nation is that Scripture is referring to a cross-section of people from virtually every nation on earth. This is true of Jesus’s ransom price of his very blood in which some, but certainly not all, will be redeemed. It’s also true of Antichrist Nero’s granted authority to rule. Whereas, he will have a substantial following of individuals all over the globe because of his miraculous reappearance from the Abyss (Revelation 17:8) and will be given power to rule over ten nations and their leaders, it certainly doesn’t mean global dominance.

The One-World Government will be reserved for The Alpha and Omega, The Lion from the Tribe of Judah, the King of all kings, and Lord of all lords … Christ Jesus the Son of God, Son of David, and Son of Man! And what a glorious government it will be!

The true church of Messiah Jesus is composed of people from all races on earth, but it does not consist of a localized or regionalized or nationalized seat of government found in a specific location on the planet. The Roman Catholic Church headquartered in the Vatican, in Rome, is NOT the true Christian church, the body of Christ. Although the ten-nation confederation headed by the beast will undoubtedly have a strategic headquarters (most likely in Rome), there will still be in existence many national capitals, as well as international headquarters for the United Nations (New York) and the European Union (Brussels) plus other powerful groups such as the World Trade Organization, OPEC, and NATO.

One other passage with identical language: “And for three and a half days, all peoples, tribes, languages, and nations will stare at their bodies…” (Revelation 11:9, italics for emphasis). This is referring to the two witnesses (Elijah and Moses) who will be killed by Antichrist at the end of 3 ½ years of testifying for the true Messiah. Many people will still not have access to television or the internet and will not actually look at the dead bodies, though they probably will be told what has happened. However, if just one person on earth didn’t view the bodies of the two witnesses, then the word, all, is erroneous. But not if we correctly comprehend the intended meaning of passages that refer to all or every in the context of many end-times Day of the Lord prophecies up to and including the Millennium. Not until after the Millennial Reign of Messiah will ALL always mean ALL.

For example, “All nations will come and worship before you, for your righteous deeds have been revealed” (Revelation 15:4). But in Zechariah we find that some nations won’t always obey God and Messiah’s commands to, for example, travel to Jerusalem to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles during the Millennium. There really is no conflict between these passages, not if we understand the pattern throughout Scripture wherein the context of the passage plus comparing the passage with others like it, clarifies whether ALL means ALL or whether it means a representative cross-section (some or many) of ALL or EVERYONE.

In fact, we use the same kind of expressive language in our modern age. For example, you might relay to a friend that you had just seen on television the best basketball game ever played in the Olympics finals by beginning with, “It was great. The whole world was watching!” When, in fact, the reason you’re telling your friend about this sensational game is because he didn’t see it; nor did maybe ½ of the world’s population.

Conversely, when we read a verse like John 3:16 (“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life”), we clearly understand that it is, in fact, the whole world—every man, woman, and child that God loves—because the passage then says that whosoever … meaning just those who believe and receive Jesus Christ as Savior … will not perish but live forever.

Summary

If some are going to assert that Antichrist will establish a One-World government with total control over all the nations and people on earth, then they will need to draw on another portion of Scripture other than Revelation Chapter 13 … every tribe and people and language and nation. But, in fact, there are no other Scripture passages to support the supposition of a Global government during the Tribulation, headed by the Antichrist or any other world ruler. Yet there are Biblical references to world leaders and nations (Kings of the East and King of the South) that will oppose Antichrist and his ten-nation confederation.

In this same Chapter 13 of Revelation, another passage is used to support the idea of the Antichrist as a World Dictator, with total control over ALL people and ALL nations.

“He (the False Prophet) required everyone—small and great, rich and poor, free and slave—to be given a mark on the right hand or on the forehead. And no one could buy or sell anything without that mark, which was either the name of the beast or the number representing his name” (Revelation 13:16-17).

Notice that Antichrist through the False Prophet “requires” everyone to take his mark. That certainly doesn’t mean all people on earth will (voluntarily) let themselves be branded. Requirement is one thing; successful enforcement is quite another thing. Two groups of people will reject this decree and refuse to comply: (1) the national leaders of the eastern nations (oriental) and millions upon millions of people living in those nations; (2) millions more from all races, languages, and ethnic groups who choose the true Messiah, Jesus Christ, over Antichrist.

Likewise, some will find ways and means to buy and sell (black market) that will circumvent the False Prophet’s “requirement” of buying and selling only through the mark. For sure, it won’t be business as usual; meaning that without the embedded name or number of the Beast, many won’t be able to buy or sell food and all sorts of other products in a normal transaction that we are accustomed to in today’s high-tech world. And that will have a profound impact on their daily lives to the point of extreme deprivation, possibly even starvation or death from lack of urgent medical care. However, though it will be difficult; some will figure out a way to live and conduct life-sustaining deals without the handy implant in their right hand or (laser) inserted mark on their forehead.

Things to Ponder

Several times Revelation also refers to, “All the people who belong to this world.” Each time that means all those who have privately and publicly sworn their loyalty to the beast … by taking his mark, worshiping him, or worshiping the statue of the beast. Once they actually take the mark of the beast, it is absolutely too late for them to recant or repent. They have literally sealed themselves for destruction.

Returning to a verse quoted early in this article: “His kingdom will last forever, and all rulers will serve and obey him” (Daniel 7:27). Now that kingdom (the Kingdom of God on earth) will be a magnificent universal Government to end all governments. Moreover, the all rulers that will serve and obey him (here in this passage as it pertains to the Post-millennial reign of Christ in an eternal kingdom) means just that—ALL RULERS.

A Sleeping Giant

A Sleeping Giant

Where were you heard the stunning news of 9/11? What were you doing? My guess is that only a handful of United States citizens over the age of eighteen would not remember the four planes commandeered by ruthless terrorists that brought down the twin towers, plunged into the Pentagon, and plummeted from the sky into a Pennsylvania field killing all passengers. Nearly three thousand American lost their lives in this brutal, evil attack on American soil.

Or what baby boomer couldn’t recall exactly where they were when told of United States President John F. Kennedy’s assassination on November 22, 1963. At age 17, I was a senior in high school just beginning my 1:00 PM class in government/social studies … of all subjects. When the teacher broke the horrific news, she wept as did nearly every student in the class.

Or farther back in American history to the deadliest attack on our country by a foreign nation. In a massive unprovoked airstrike against the United States Naval Fleet at Pearl Harbor, Japanese pilots killed 2,335 American servicemen and 68 civilians; and destroyed or disabled eight battleships and other smaller vessels. This barbaric act rushed the United States into World War II, a war greater even than “The Great War”, the War to end all wars, which then received the title of World War I, as it was no longer the only world war.

To some extent or another, virtually the entire Empire of Japan—civilian and military alike—celebrated, admired, or gave tacit approval to this malicious attack that took place while two Japanese emissaries were in Washington under the guise of establishing peaceful relations with the United States of America. All that is, except one man: Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, none other than the Japanese officer who conceived and help develop the attack plan; then directed the military force that intended to annihilate the American Naval force and (theoretically) render America incapable of fighting a foreign war.

Many remember the famous quote attributed to Admiral Yamamoto soon after the attack on Pearl Harbor as articulated by the actor portraying Yamamoto in the movie, Tora! Tora! Tora! … Released in 1970: “I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with terrible resolve.” I believe this same line was repeated in a subsequent (probably more well-known) film entitled, Pearl Harbor, aired in 2001.

Although no written (records) confirmation has been found to prove that Admiral Yamamoto spoke or wrote these words, the producer of Tora, Tora, Tora, Elmo Williams claimed to have found or have seen the famous quote in Yamamoto’s diary. Whether Yamamoto ever wrote or said these words, one thing is historically clear: The day after the attack on Pearl Harbor while his military staff and airmen were celebrating such a great victory, Yamamoto dubiously spent the entire day in a deep depression. Obviously (at least apparently) he fully realized the enormous repercussions of awakening this sleeping giant, known as the United States of America; whose relatively small armed force and sluggish economy (at the time) would transform into a colossal military and economic giant not seen since the mighty Roman Empire. A giant that would turn the tide of World War II, and destroy the country that would dare disturb America’s peaceful rest from the First World War, but would also accelerate its painfully slow emergence from the Great Depression.

Another Emerging Giant

From Pearl Harbor, let’s fast forward nearly 75 years and behold another economic and military goliath. Although not directly rebounding from a cruel surprise attack, this behemoth has risen from the ashes of World War II, from suppressive domination by its own (communist) leaders, from relative economic obscurity and deprivation. A nation that many financial and military experts believe will one day (not that far off) overtake the United States as the greatest, if not only, superpower on the earth: CHINA.

chna-MMAP-sm

Although the People’s Republic of China is still communistic in both theory and practice, it is not completely socialistic. There is a fair amount of free enterprise allowed, but with a shrewdly concocted economic trade imbalance (favoring, of course, China) with other countries through import taxes and export tax rebates. However, without the amazing rapid technological advancements experienced in the recent past, China’s administrative schemes and strategies would not work nearly as well.

Much could be and has been written about China’s unparalleled modernization and off-the-chart economic and military expansion in just the last three decades or so. But for sake of space in this article, statistical phenomena will be limited to the following:

Population: Nearly 1.4 billion, the most populated country on earth, comprising a little over 20% of the world’s population. One of every five human beings on this planet is Chinese! This, despite China’s deplorable one-child per family policy that began in 1979 in which millions upon millions of babies (mostly girls) have been aborted to comply with this government mandated restriction of the (once) soaring population growth. This program is no longer enforced the way it once was; however, the result was still a ratio of 118 boys to 100 girls born in 2010 … a serious gender imbalance. The average for Western nations is 105 boys to 100 girls, which is a more natural proportion. Currently there are almost 50 million more males than females in China. In stark contrast, women outnumber men in the USA by about seven million.

It can get a bit crowded in China!

Economy: By far, the fastest growing major economy in the world. China is the 2nd largest importer of goods, and the largest exporter and trading nation. In 2010 (figures have undoubtedly risen since then), China’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was the only Asian nation over $10 trillion, with only two other nations above that same $10 trillion benchmark: The United States and the European Union. Although I indicated “nations” to sort of mislead you, the fact is: China’s GDP is not that far behind the entire European Union (all 28 nations) GDP—some $18 trillion in US Dollars at the end of 2014. One of my sisters just recently gave me the gift of a new lawn chair that she purchased at Wal-Mart. I checked the manufacturing tag. What do you think it said? Easy Answer! What millions of products imported to America say: MADE IN CHINA.

Military: Were you aware that China is one of the nuclear powers on earth? You probably knew that, but did you also know that this nuclear armament includes well over 100 ICBMs that have the range to strike the USA? China’s armed forces budget of $148 billion is 2nd only to the United States. Moreover, there is reliable evidence that in the not so distant future, China may earmark nearly one trillion dollars a year for military expenditure. She currently maintains an active military force of 2,285,000 and has the capacity to field (if needed or wanted) a combined military—army, navy, air force—of an astounding 386 million men. AND an almost equal number of women! The potential number of service (men) alone exceeds the entire population of the USA.

The Recent Formation of Some Remarkable Economic Alliances

The country’s name (China) is not actually found in Scripture, but there is an unmistakable allusion to this sleeping giant in the Bible. Both of these references are found in the context of the last part of the Great Tribulation, specifically in the series of battles that will be part of the greatest military conflict the world has ever seen or ever will see again: Armageddon.

Before we examine the two Biblical passages that point to the oriental power(s) that will participate in this epic war (to literally end all wars), let’s take a look at what’s happening between the two most unlikely countries to achieve any kind of cooperation between its people, including economic agreements: ISRAEL & CHINA.

Unlikely because—alongside of Arab and Muslim countries—communistic and socialistic nations have traditionally despised and denigrated Israel. But also likely, because this end-times association between China and Israel is part and parcel of the apocalyptic prophecies found in Daniel and Revelation. It is a startling contemporary development which identifies and confirms another piece of the prophetic puzzle.

In a recent article from a Tokyo-based online global news source called, The Diplomat, we read: “A convergence of commercial interests have led the People’s Republic of China and the State of Israel to develop an increasingly integrated bilateral economic partnership that is poised to flourish over the next decade. Bilateral trade has experienced a 200-fold increase since diplomatic ties were formally established in 1992, surging from $50 million to $10 billion in 2013, with plans to double that figure in the next few years.”

The article goes on to say that China is looking to Israel to supply technology necessary for maximum agricultural yield, as well as more competent water purification techniques that can enhance China’s urban and economic growth throughout the 21st century. This technology is crucial to a nation boasting 22 percent of the world’s population but only seven percent of the world’s arable land. To that end, Israel and China reached an agreement worth another $300 million for Israel to export water technology that will improve Chinese agricultural productivity.

Opening Ceremonies, Beijing Olympics

Israel is also building strong economic ties with Japan and with India such as the Israeli Ports Company establishing a partnership with India’s Cargo Motors to construct a deep-water port in Gujarat; and Israel’s Towerjazz teaming up with India’s Jaiprakash Associates and IBM to build a $5.6 billion chip plant near Delhi.

Are these diplomatic and economic developments simply business as usual? Not hardly … not when it comes to tiny Israel with a population of some eight million (six million Jews) striking deals with the two largest (population) nations on earth, China and India. Or with Japan, which not that long ago boasted one of the most successful economies in the world (remember when Japanese businesses were buying up rich land in California and other states).

Although the EU is still Israel’s largest trading partner, that will gradually subside then come to a screeching halt during the Great Tribulation when the European based coalition headed by the beast of Revelation (Antichrist) will turn on Israel, attack her, and set out to conquer the entire world. As an example, recent reports from Middle East sources that I draw from indicate that the European Union is poised to sanction and further boycott Israel immediately after Israel’s elections on March 17th.

These sanctions are mostly geared to so-called Israeli settlements in east Jerusalem and the West Bank, but are also generated by the increasing anti-Semitism mindset that is pervasively prevalent in many European counties. I say so-called settlements because, in fact, ALL of Jerusalem belongs to Israel. These settlements blocs and those in Judea-Samaria (the correct name for the so-called West Bank) were legally zoned and paid for by Israeli towns and citizens.

How/Where Does China Fit into The Bible’s Last Days Prophecies?

Let’s begin with the oldest end-times prophecy that announces the ruler to whom ten kings and their kingdoms (modern-day nations) will yield allegiance and join forces. This despotic king is none other than the man of lawlessness depicted by the Apostle Paul, the beast of Revelation, and the Antichrist labeled by the Apostle John. Much has been written about this evil tyrant, including his very identity as found in my book, Out of the Abyss … can the number of the beast be solved, 666? And through several Eye of Prophecy articles that can be located in the category of Antichrist.

He is first introduced by the prophet Daniel in Chapter 7, then again in Chapter 9, and once more in Chapter 11. It is the latter chapter we want to focus on: “Then at the time of the end, the king of the south will attack the king of the north. The king of the north will storm out with chariots, charioteers, and a vast navy. He will invade various lands and sweep through them like a flood. He will enter the glorious land of Israel, and many nations will fall … He will conquer many countries, and even Egypt will not escape … But then news from the east and the north will alarm him, and he will set out in great anger to destroy and obliterate many. He will stop between the glorious holy mountain and the sea and will pitch his royal tents. But while he is there, his time will suddenly run out, and no one will help him” (Daniel 11:40-45, italics for emphasis).

The king of the south is most likely the ruler(s) of Egypt or Syria and possibly Gulf-state Arab allies. From preceding verses in this chapter it is abundantly clear that the king of the north is Antichrist. During his assault against the king of the south, he extends this massive campaign by attacking other countries including his ultimate target, Israel. But suddenly alarming developments (news) from both the north and the east will infuriate him. Consequently, Antichrist and his ten-kingdom federation will turn their attention to these (military) threats. (How dare they oppose him?) With an equally obvious conclusion that the passage is referring to a nation or nations from the east because the king of the north, “sets out in great anger to destroy and obliterate many,” i.e. war on a huge scale. Wars on this implied scale are only waged between nations, not merely ethnic groups.

We also know this will take place toward the very end of the seven-year Tribulation period, as the Antichrist King of the north establishes his headquarters between the holy mountain of Israel which is Jerusalem and the Mediterranean Sea, which is the hill and surrounding valley of Megiddo, from which we get the term, Armageddon. Then, “his time will suddenly run out…” because Christ will intervene and stop Antichrist cold in his tracks.

For purpose of this article, the focal point of this passage is the discernible conclusion that eastern countries mobilize their armies against Antichrist. There would be no reason for the king of the North to get so bent out of shape and redirect his military might in response to this alarming news from the east, unless these (eastern) nations and armies were threatening his specific operation against the king of the south and other nearby countries (especially Israel) and his more general megalomania goal of world domination. To further confirm this scenario, let’s look at the second prophetic passage that literally directs our attention to the East … this time found in the Book of Revelation.

Kings of the East

In the next to last bowl judgment, which is also the next to last of twenty-one total judgments (seven seals, seven trumpets, and seven bowls), we read this amazing prophecy: “Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great Euphrates River, and it dried up so that the kings from the east could march their armies toward the west without hindrance. And I saw three evil spirits that looked like frogs leap from the mouths of the dragon, the beast, and the false prophet. They are demonic spirits who work miracles and go out to all the rulers of the world to gather them for battle against the Lord on that great judgment day of God the Almighty. And the demonic spirits gathered all the rulers and their armies to a place with the Hebrew name Armageddon” (Revelation 16:12-14 & 16, italics for emphasis).

There are some astounding things taking place in these few verses … indeed throughout the entire book of Revelation (and Daniel). Imagine if you can, a river as huge as the Euphrates simply drying up?! We know this mighty river turned dry-path is supernatural as God’s angel is the direct source of this wonder. There’s a divine logistical reason for this incredible event—so that, the kings from the east could march their armies toward the west without hindrance. This is all part of God’s providential plan for two massive coalitions and the national armies comprising these alliances to fight against each other, only to then turn against Messiah himself in a totally futile attempt to wage war against the King of kings.

Who are these kings from the east? Geographically they must be east of Israel, as Israel is the center point of nearly all end-times prophecies, both Old and New Testament, both spiritually and literally. All Biblical directional references to Gentile nations originate from Israel’s location in the Middle East. One possibility is that the kings of the east could refer to modern-day Iran or Iraq (Middle East); however, that is not a logical or valid choice. For the reason that Iraq or Babylon is no longer a threat to any other nation. Iraq fell into disarray when Saddam Hussein was ousted by American led coalition forces. Iran, plus any forces left in Iraq, will be supernaturally defeated along with Russia in the Gog-Magog attack against Israel (Ezekiel 38 & 39).

The only viable kings and kingdoms that the prophets Daniel and John (Revelation) are referencing would be the contemporary nations of Japan, Korea, and most prominent of all—China. However, I believe India will also be part of this enormous military assault against Antichrist and his ten-kingdom confederation.

When Antichrist breaks his seven-year treaty with Israel and subsequently invades the Holy Land, these Far-East Nations will mobilize their armies and march west through the Middle East over the dried-up Euphrates River, straight toward the Valley of Megiddo.

China, by itself, is capable today of taking on any national unity in the world, including the United States, Russia, or the European Union. But when you throw in Japan and Korea (North or South or a unified Korea) and especially India, even the Antichrist led coalition of nations (which I believe will include the United States, albeit an America with a much weaker economy and military due to loss of so many people at the Rapture) will not be able to withstand such an onslaught.

The dragon (Satan), the beast (Nero), and the false prophet will realize that they have rudely awakened a sleeping giant and, after a series of bloody battles, will fully comprehend that they have no choice but to joins forces with their eastern enemies to fight against the Lion from the Tribe of Judah… Messiah Yeshua. In fact that suits Antichrist’s ultimate goal, which is to crush Israel, eradicate the Tribulation saints, and establish his own messianic kingdom on earth. What better way to accomplish that objective than aligning with the formidable kings of the east. If you can’t beat them, join them!

Will the Far East giants China and India and other oriental nations assemble against Antichrist because they want to come to Israel’s aid? Yes and No. Ostensibly that will most likely be their stated purpose for this cataclysmic confrontation with Antichrist; however, their true motivation will undoubtedly be the same reason that Russia and her allies (Gog/Magog) attack Israel in the early part of the Tribulation, and the same incentive that motivates Antichrist to overrun Israel. Actually, there are two reasons: (1) to gain control of the vast oil/gas wealth in the Middle East including newly found reserves of natural gas off the shores of Israel. (2) To fulfill Satan’s age-old diabolical plan of erasing Israel from the face of the earth and, in doing so, complete Hitler’s horrendous agenda of genocide of the Jewish race … this time through the Antichrist.

But this (last of the last days) unholy alliance—when west for one brief apocalyptic moment meets east—will be crushed by the rider on the white horse whose name was, “…Faithful and True, for he judges fairly and wages a righteous war” (Revelation 19:11). “… and his title was the Word of God” (Verse 13). And, “…the beast and the kings of the world and their armies gathered together to fight against the one sitting on the horse and his army” (Verse 19).

Noteworthy in this final epic battle of Armageddon is that “the kings (plural) of the world and their armies” were now aligned against Messiah. In other words, the scene in Revelation Chapter 16 and Daniel Chapter 11 shifts from two massive military empires facing each other to a (spur of the moment) unified global military alliance against Christ. Such arrogance, such folly, such stupidity!

Would you want to take on someone who had descended from the clouds (from heaven) with a vast host (army) descending with him?! How do you fight against someone like that? Such, I suppose, is the vanity of evil and the mystery of iniquity.

Things to Ponder

Not until the very end, the last few days of the Tribulation do all (except of course Israel) nations attempt to do battle with God, himself (Messiah). Although this would be an article topic for another week in Eye of Prophecy (which I may very well do in the near future) please consider the following: Contrary to what has been a recurring theme for several decades promoted even by the best of Biblical scholars and teachers, I firmly believe there will be no such thing as a One-World Government, until Jesus Christ returns and establishes the majestic Kingdom of God on this earth. THEN there will be a divinely unified system of truth, justice, and peace never before experienced on this earth … the Millennial Reign of Messiah Jesus.

First, according to Daniel 7 and Revelation 17, there will be ten kings (kingdoms or nations) that will comprise this formidable military coalition headed by the little horn of Daniel and the king-beast of Revelation—both of whom are the Antichrist. Secondly, this king of the north who is also the Antichrist will do battle with the kings of the East, as already explained.

Question: How can there be a One-World Government (economically and militarily) unless ALL nations (at least the powerful ones) are part of that Government? Bible prophecy clearly and unambiguously tells us that the Antichrist and his ten-nation kingdom will have enemies, i.e. the king of the south and even more dangerous foes—the Eastern kings (and their kingdoms) who are giants awakened from international neutrality by a man who wants to conquer the Middle East and then the whole world?

If you have one multi-national force opposing another multi-national force, does that sound like a global world government or military to you? To me it sounds exactly like what happened before and during World War I and World War II; one bloc of nations conspiring and warring against another bloc of nations. Prior to the last day when Christ utterly vanquishes ALL the forces and armies of evil, Armageddon—by Biblical prophecy and historical precedence—will become World War III. With West pitted against East.

Notice the plural significance of the following passage when it comes to kings and nations contrasted to the typically taught premise of a one-world single unity type of government.

“For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders … His government and its peace will never end…” (Isaiah 9:6-7)

The Seal of Approval

The Seal of Approval … Identity of Antichrist

It’s time to once again declassify and decode the identity of Antichrist. To once again lift the veil of secrecy and mystery that modern-day students of prophecy have imposed on this infamous figure; called a ruler and king by the prophet Daniel, the man of lawlessness by the apostle Paul, Antichrist by the apostle John, and a beast by John, the author of Revelation.

Although volumes have been written about this notorious tyrant, the prevailing premise is that the identity of the man who would dare be anti-Christ cannot be known until after the Rapture, at the outset of the seven-year Great Tribulation. As I have quoted in past Eye of Prophecy articles, some scholars have dismissed and even ridiculed the notion that the Antichrist’s identity was meant to be known before the Rapture with the statement: “If anyone thinks they know the identity of Antichrist, then they have missed the Rapture!”

But we can know … we should know! Why can I make such a bold assertion? It’s really quite simple: Because Scripture not only encourages such a discovery, it actually challenges us to figure out who the prophets and apostles are referring to. That he was not just a future tense despot to the prophet Daniel, but a present tense ruler during the Apostle Paul’s lifetime and a past tense Monarch shortly before the book of Revelation was penned.

This week’s article will revisit in summary fashion my book, Out of the Abyss … can the number of the beast be solved, 666? As well as past Eye of Prophecy articles entitled: Modern Day Antichrist; Antichrist … Is He Alive Today; Reappearance of the Beast; The Number of the Beast; The Beast and His Name … published consecutively between 9-7-13 and 10-5-13. If you’re really interested, if you truly want to dig into the Biblical and secular references to this man of sin, then I would encourage you to get a copy of the book and read the Eye of Prophecy articles. Out of the Abyss is available on-line through Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Let’s begin with a remarkable well-known verse sometimes quoted in my past writings on the beast of Revelation, but one that bears repeating: “Wisdom is needed here. Let the one with understanding solve the meaning of the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. His number is 666” (Revelation 13:18). In ancient Greek manuscripts the number 666 is actually written out … six hundred, sixty-six.

What does this verse say and mean to you? Are there any restrictions identified or conditions imposed on the reader, whether a Christian reading it in the first century or in this current generation, that directly state or remotely imply that the calculation (through wisdom and understanding) of the meaning of the number applies only to those alive after the Rapture? The verse unambiguously challenges the reader of that time to, “solve the meaning of the number of the beast.” And when that is unscrambled, the identity of the beast will be revealed; because, “It’s the number of a man.”

As further evidence and incentive that the identity of Antichrist was meant to be known (solved) by first century believers and all believers thereafter, an extraordinary command was given by one of the angels at the very end of the phenomenal series of visions witnessed by John, as recorded in the very last chapter of Revelation. Says John, “Then he instructed me, ‘Do not seal up the prophetic words in this book, for the time is near’” (Revelation 22:10).

Hold that thought, as we will return to this captivating but puzzling command. First we need to examine identical instructions found in the Old Testament, but in reverse of the one give to John in Revelation.

The Angel to Daniel: “Seal up the book…..”

Just one other place in the Bible do we find similar language of sealing prophecies … those given to Daniel. Only the directive is in reverse of what the angel told John. “But you, Daniel, keep this prophecy a secret; seal up the book until the time of the end….” (Daniel 12:4).

Since end-times prophecy made its resurgence primarily in the 1960’s, Bible scholars have frequently and accurately explained that the instruction to Daniel (seal up the book) was necessary because fulfillment of the vast majority of Daniel’s visions wouldn’t take place until the, time of the end. Several, but not all, students of prophecy correctly place the beginning of the time of the end as the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Messiah Jesus, i.e. the New Covenant that birthed the Church. Which will culminate in the Rapture, then the beginning of the Day of the Lord—Tribulation, Second Coming of Christ at the end of the Tribulation, followed by the Millennium.

The first part of Daniel’s visions (the four beasts from the sea … a similar vision to the statue dream given to Nebuchadnezzar), actually began to unfold during his lifetime—referring to the Medes/Persian (2nd beast) conquest of Babylon (1st beast). Yet, it would be hundreds of years before the third and fourth beasts emerged as world powers … Alexander’s Greece and the Roman Empire. After Alexander’s empire was split into four parts, then before and during the rise of Rome, some (partially or fully) of Daniel’s prophecies came to pass … those found in chapters 2, 7, 8, 9, and 11. But the most important, the most prominent, and the most spectacular prophecy came to pass when Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey and was hailed as the Messiah. (Daniel 9:24-25). Daniel’s prophecy of this event came to pass on the very day predicted by the Word of God.

Then shortly after Messiah’s crucifixion and resurrection, the ruler of Daniel 7 & 9, the one whose armies would destroy Jerusalem and the Temple (Daniel 9:26-27), arrived on the scene of history. As carefully detailed in Out of the Abyss, this ruler was the Man of Lawlessness depicted by Paul, and would be the beast of Revelation who would reappear from the Abyss during the Great Tribulation.

For more dramatic effect in my book Out of the Abyss, and as progressively developed in the Eye of Prophecy articles on Antichrist, I intentionally delayed naming the Antichrist to build both a historical case and contemporary suspense as to his identity. But now, as a reinforcement to those who have read the book or articles and to any reader of this article who has not, I will plainly state his identity.

The Ruler of Daniel, the Man of Lawlessness, and the Beast of Revelation most often referred to as the Antichrist is the Roman Emperor, NERO.

Intrigued? Puzzled? Surprised? Amazed? Dumbfounded? So was I when I first realized that the Antichrist had already lived and died before John saw the spectacular visions of Revelation. That, however, the beast-king would reappear from the Abyss at the outset of the Tribulation.

Why Seal Daniel’s Visions

The reason that Daniel was told to “seal” his book was because nearly all of the prophecies weren’t germane to his generation, nor to many generations after Daniel. Obviously, the sealing of Daniel’s book wasn’t meant to be a literal fastening commonly used in those days, especially by kings and officials who wanted their documents to be tightly guarded for both privacy and safety until they were to be opened (unsealed) and read. For one thing, much of Daniel’s book was a journalistic record of past and present events that occurred during Daniel’s decade’s long sojourn in Babylon.

Rather, the sealing of Daniel’s visions was a metaphorically practical way of saying that it would do Daniel and those keenly interested in his prophecies no good to try to figure them out until the majority of the prophecies had been fulfilled. And did you know: Nearly all of Daniel’s prophecies were fulfilled by the end of the first century. In fact, the only ones not yet fulfilled were those pertaining to the ruler (little horn) and the ten horns/kings of the tribulation period, which are presented in remarkably similar fashion in Revelation 17. Once the majority of the prophecies came to pass, then the remaining (Tribulation) predictions would be much easier to grasp, particularly when expanded upon later by Paul and by John of Revelation.

Thus, after the Roman destruction of the Temple in 70 AD and certainly following the book of Revelation, Daniel’s prophecies were effectively unsealed.

Yes, the sealing of Daniel’s book has been an oft-quoted and elucidated passage by modern Bible scholars. But not so the similar, yet opposite instructions to John in Revelation. The command to, “not seal up the prophetic words in this book…” has seldom been mentioned or explained by Bible teachers (including me at one time). Yet, it has as much, if not more, significance than the directive for Daniel to seal his book.

The Angel to John: “Do not seal up the prophetic words in this book.”

Paraphrasing, Daniel was told to place his writings in storage. John was instructed to do just the opposite. Why would the angel even mention such a thing, i.e. advising John not to seal up the prophetic words of this book (Revelation)? There had to be a reason for such a command. First century believers, especially Jewish believers who were well-versed in the writings of the Old Testament prophets, would have immediately made the connection of the angel’s admonition to John as a striking contrast to the instructions given to Daniel.

To identify the association between Daniel’s sealing and John’s no-sealing is to fully grasp the meaning of and reason for the angel’s warning to John. And what is that meaning?

The astounding significance of and for the need not to seal (withhold, keep to himself, temporarily set aside, or postpone for a later time) ANY PART of the book of Revelation is that all of the revelations given to John were immediately appropriate to the believers of that day. In fact, we can with a great deal of assurance and authority carry this a step further and state: The revelations and understanding of the visions were applicable first and foremost to the Christians of the first century. Because if Jesus could/would imminently come for his bride (the Church) at any time, then all of the end-time Biblical prophecies would begin to unfold immediately. Therefore, ALL of the revelations given to John were applicable to all Christians of that time and should be openly read, taught, and disseminated throughout the Roman Empire.

With, however, the need to codify references to the Antichrist to protect Christians from further persecution and death; hence, the encoding of the beast’s identity through the Hebrew method of counting and numbering with their alphabet (Gematria) in Revelation 13. Also to partially obscure the identity of the beast (Nero) in Revelation 17, by what effectively was a puzzle or riddle of the seven kings … five fallen, one reigning, one soon to reign, but briefly, then an eighth king (the beast himself) who was one of the seven.

That is why the angel told John not to seal up the prophecies of Revelation; because they were to be understood by and applied to those believers alive at that time. Unlike the prophecies of Daniel which were some 90% for the mostly distant future—the centuries leading to and including the first advent of Messiah Jesus—the disclosures to John of Patmos were undeniably relevant to his readers because Jesus could rapture his Church at any moment.

That this beast had already lived and died before John was given the visions of the beast in Revelation, but that this same beast king would reappear from the Abyss. That coupled with the wording of Daniel 9:26-27, resulted in a phenomenal conclusion that the Antichrist beast would also return to the earth (in duplication of Messiah’s 2nd coming), but not until the Tribulation began very shortly after the Rapture.

Because the Rapture and subsequent return of Christ could (and in the eyes of first century believers) probably would take place in their lifetime, the Antichrist had to already have been a first century man to instigate and commence his Tribulation reign of terror that would begin very soon after the Rapture.

(Please read the above paragraph again). We need to wrap our minds around this fact and let it sink in. Rephrased: Christ could have chosen to Rapture the believers at any moment. If he had done so, then the remainder of Daniel’s and Jesus’s and Paul’s and John’s prophecies including, but not limited to the Antichrist, would have begun to unfold soon thereafter … within days or weeks. Thus, the Antichrist MUST HAVE ALREADY BEEN ON THE SCENE.

Which is exactly what the angel told John in Revelation 17.

A Stunning Disclosure … The Antichrist Will Not Be a Modern-Day Man

Said the angel to John: “Why are you so amazed?… I will tell you the mystery of this woman and of the beast with seven heads and ten horns on which she sits. The beast you saw was once alive but isn’t now. And yet he will soon come up out of the bottomless pit and go to eternal destruction. And the people who belong to this world … will be amazed at the reappearance of the beast who had died” (Revelation 17:8, italics for emphasis). The Greek word for soon means momentarily, but more so it means abruptly or suddenly.

In November, 2008 (almost to the day of today’s article), this passage absolutely stunned me; even though I had read the verse along with the rest of Revelation many times. All of John’s visions, including this one, took place in the present (time). After seeing the beast for this second time, the angel revealed the “mystery” of the beast to John. It was another extraordinary disclosure of the beast’s identity to go along with his number (six hundred, sixty-six) presented earlier in Revelation Chapter 13.

The incredible fact was/is: The Antichrist-beast had lived before John saw this vision of him. But at the time of the vision on a specific Sunday (Revelation 1) on a specific day in John’s life, the beast was no longer alive. But he would return from the Abyss (bottomless pit) and this return (reappearance) would utterly amaze the world’s inhabitants. This and other passages regarding the Antichrist was thoroughly explained in Out of the Abyss, along with historical first-century church and secular records.

All of the pieces of the prophetic puzzle fit perfectly, leading to the inescapable conclusion that the Antichrist was none other than the Roman Emperor Nero!

Returning to the (un)sealing of the Book of Revelation, the breathtaking relevance of this command to John was that ALL of the mysteries of Revelation could be understood by believers of that time, including the identity of the Antichrist. It was not necessary to wait until future generations to understand these mysteries including the number of the beast and his biographical history up to that time.

The identity of the beast could, would, and should be known by the (any) generation alive when the Rapture occurred followed by the immediate appearance (reappearance) of the beast. Consequently, would you (also) agree that the Christians of the first century could have been that very generation? If so, then they and all generations to follow had the Biblical tools to solve the clues and ascertain the identity of Antichrist BEFORE the Rapture, not afterward.

Once again: Nowhere in Revelation does John state or even imply that the identity of the beast could only be decoded or known until after the beast actually appeared on the scene. Moreover, Chapter 21 in Out of the Abyss meticulously explains II Thessalonians Chapter 2; that the “revealing” of the Man of Lawlessness took place when Nero unlawfully usurped the title of Roman Emperor and began a rebellion against God and Christianity during his lifetime. Additionally, the often overlooked verse eight of this chapter was clarified. That Jesus actually kills the Man of Lawlessness (Antichrist, beast) and then destroys him. That killing and destroying are not the same thing. That the death (killing) of Nero took place in 68 AD, but his final destruction in the Lake of Fire will not take place until the end of the Tribulation, after he returns from the Abyss. I also spend a great deal of space in the book on the Abyss, itself.

All of which leads to the crystal clear conclusion: The Antichrist cannot be a modern-day man born and raised in today’s world nor any generation to follow. The words of Revelation 17 are unmistakable: the beast had already lived and died BEFORE John saw it/him in his vision. “The beast you saw was once alive but isn’t now.”

Daniels’ prophecies could not be comprehended by his generation, which is why the angel instructed him to seal them … meaning set them aside until the actual events took place. Not so with John’s visions as recorded in Revelation. They were to be (with wisdom and understanding) grasped right then and there. The Lord through John wanted the believers of the seven churches and all Christians of that day to know, beyond any reasonable doubt, that Nero was the beast of Revelation; the revealed Man of Lawlessness presented by Paul; the ruler whose armies destroyed Jerusalem and the Temple of Daniel in Chapter 9; the little horn of Daniel Chapter 7 who would “suddenly appear” on the scene and take over the ten horns (kings), the same ten kings of Revelation 17. All this, and more is carefully documented through Scripture and history in Out of the Abyss and to a lesser extent in the prior Eye of Prophecy articles.

Which is why Jesus told John at the spectacular beginning of Revelation when John saw the risen Christ before he saw any visions at all: “Write down what you have seen—both the things that are now happening and the things that will happen” (Revelation 1:19). Revelation contained more than just things that would come; which, as already alluded, Christians in that day believed would come shortly. It included visions pertaining to things already taking place … which by default would include recent past events that dovetailed with current events of that time.

Summary

Because it has been 3 ½ years since Out of the Abyss was published and over a year since the Eye of Prophecy articles on Antichrist, I felt compelled to reintroduce and re-emphasize the remarkable disclosures that help refit the pieces of the prophetic puzzle regarding the identity of the Antichrist. Starting with the amazing FACT (according to Revelation 17) that the Antichrist beast had already been born and died before John received the revelations of this evil man. That he would reappear from the Abyss; that by default logic he couldn’t ascend from the Abyss until he had first been placed there (by Christ).

But mostly in this article to expand on these short, simple, but amazingly profound verses in the first and last chapters of Revelation.

First Chapter: Jesus told John, “… to write down what you have seen, both the things that are now happening and the things that will happen.” Why wouldn’t the Lord have just said, write down what he had seen, and leave it at that? There was a reason Jesus added the following words. Reason: Because he wanted John and all first century believers and Christians thereafter to understand explicitly that Revelation was not confined just to future events … events that could begin any hour or day after John’s visions were over. Other than the first three chapters of Revelation including the letters to the seven churches, most Christians and even Bible scholars think in terms of the remainder of Revelation applying exclusively to future events. NOT SO.

There are several past tense occurrences in Revelation, such as the five kings who had fallen, and most amazing—the beast who had already lived and died, who—as I demonstrate in past writings—was one of those five kings who had died … Nero.

Last Chapter: That’s why the angel instructed John not to withhold or postpone or delay the announcement and distribution of the book of Revelation (all part of “sealing” a book). Because, in fact, ALL of Revelation was applicable immediately to all believers and nothing in the book was hidden from meaning and none of the mysteries were left unrevealed. This all was relevant to and part of the equally valid truth that Jesus could return any day.

The fact in the first century was: THE BEAST HAD ALREADY BEEN REVEALED. Now it was just a matter of when the Rapture would take place, which would initiate and shift into high gear all of the ensuing prophecies of the beast’s reappearance and all of the Tribulation events depicted in Revelation.

Conversely, with the prophet Daniel and his visions, he was repeatedly told that the visions were for a future time … nothing whatsoever imminent about these prophecies. Such as, “…you must understand that the events you have seen in your vision relate to the time of the end” (Daniel 8:17). But with the New Testament Saints everything was imminent, beginning with the Rapture and continuing (immediately) with the return of the beast who had died and all prophesied events thereafter.

Do you see the difference between Daniel’s time and John’s time? Does this help explain the divine rationale between instructing Daniel to seal his prophecies, but for John to unseal what had been revealed to him (don’t seal the words)? And why those specific instructions were even given to Daniel and John.

Things to Ponder

The specific purpose of this article is to know beyond any doubt that we are meant to know the identity of the beast of Revelation, just as the first century (and a few centuries after that) Christians knew. It is recorded both in secular and church history that many early Christians believed that Nero would, in fact, return as the Antichrist beast of Revelation. This amazing belief was prevalent for the better part of four hundred years after the Lord’s ascension to heaven.

All I’m doing is refitting the prophetic puzzle that had correctly been assembled in the years of the early Church. I’m not reinventing the wheel. Rather I’m using the same wheel of prophecy used by the early believers in their journey through the annals of Biblical events pertaining to the last days. And these last days began with the birth of Jesus. We are currently in the last of the last days.

“Indeed, the Sovereign Lord never does anything until he reveals his plans to his servants the prophets” (Amos 3:7).

Revelation’s prophet is John of Patmos. The early Christians understood John’s prophecies were meant for them. They weren’t even thinking about future generations no more than we would if we fully expected something to happen in our lifetime. They understood that Nero was the beast, but not until he had died; because Revelation wasn’t written until after Nero’s death, nor was the apostle John’s term of Antichrist used. Nor could they match up the ruler (Antichrist) of Daniel until Nero died and his armies vanquished Jerusalem and the Temple.

But they could (and did) match Nero with the Man of Lawlessness that Paul introduced to them. Once Nero died and Revelation was written, they knew for sure who Nero was. Because Paul said that Jesus would kill the man of lawlessness (II Thessalonians 2:8). Then John told them that the beast would return from the abyss. Later, they understood that Daniel’s prophecy applied to Nero, because in 70 AD the very generals personally selected/appointed by Nero to crush Israel destroyed the Temple … a campaign begun by Vespasian and completed by his son, Titus. (See Daniel 9:26-27).

The early Christians knew, and so can we.

The False Prophet (Part II)

THE FALSE PROPHET (Part II)

To be sure, the scarlet beast of Revelation who would dare to be Anti-Christ will garner most of the Tribulation headlines. He will dazzle the world’s Post-Rapture population through his remarkable return to the earth from the Abyss; although the world will see this reappearance as a miraculous resurrection from the dead … not a release from the bottomless pit normally reserved for wicked, fallen angels. The world will worship Satan and the Antichrist, as though they had performed this miracle of recovery from a mortal wound; when, in fact, it was Christ who providentially struck down Nero, then revived him and banished him to the Abyss, to be freed at the appointed time.

But there is another prominent, malevolent figure who will accomplish as much or more than the Beast himself. In last week’s article we examined exactly what it is the second Beast, known as the False Prophet, will do, “on behalf of the first beast.” (Revelation 13). Of special interest, however, is that this man is not labeled as a false prophet until much later in the Great Tribulation. Let’s read what will happen in the last few days before the magnificent return of Christ.

“And I saw three evil spirits that looked like frogs leap from the mouths of the dragon, the beast, and the false prophet. They are demonic spirits who work miracles and go out to all the rulers of the world to gather them for battle against the Lord on that great judgment day of God the Almighty … And the demonic spirits gathered all the rulers and their armies to a place with the Hebrew name Armageddon” (Revelation 16: 13-16).

This final call that galvanizes even the enemies of Antichrist against the true Messiah occurs after the 6th (next to last) bowl judgment, which obviously is near the end of the Great Tribulation. Only then will the world, by and large, realize that this man is a false prophet—as well as the first beast a false messiah and Satan a false god. By then it will be too late. The vast majority of the world’s population will understand that they have been duped, when Jesus Christ begins to soundly defeat them in the greatest battle of all time. Great only in terms that the armies of the entire world will be aligned against Christ Jesus; not in the actual disposition of the battle … which borders on being anticlimactic.

“Then I saw the beast and the kings of the world and their armies gathered together to fight against the one sitting on the horse and his army. And the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who did mighty miracles on behalf of the beast—miracles that deceived all who had accepted the mark of the beast and who worshipped his statue. Both the beast and his false prophet were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur. Their entire army was killed by the sharp sword that came from the mouth of the one riding the white horse. And the vultures all gorged themselves on the dead bodies” (Revelation 19: 19-21).

When this false prophet initially arrives on the scene (early in the Tribulation), he is simply called, “another beast” who “exercised all the authority of the first beast.” (Revelation 13: 11-12). He is the False Prophet, but the world sees him as a true and powerful prophet (the image of a beast for both the Antichrist and the False Prophet is used to convey power, terror, and ability … to destroy). Not until their fate is irreversible—when billions have taken the mark of the beast, which is his name or his number 666, and their two magnificent leaders are unveiled for what and who they really are—will people lament their tragic but deliberate decision to follow the Antichrist and his (false) prophet.

Who or What is the (a) False Prophet?

First, a reminder that Scripture not only permits identification of the Antichrist, but actually encourages the unveiling of the “mystery of the beast with seven heads and ten horns….” (Revelation 17:8). In fact, during the first introduction of the beast (Antichrist), the angel challenges John and, therefore, all readers of Revelation with the following examination: “Wisdom is needed here. Let the one with understanding solve the meaning of the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. His number is 666” (Revelation 13:18).

Can we do the same with the False Prophet? Can we determine who he actually is/will be by name? No, we can’t, because Scripture doesn’t give us any clues as to his actual identity. However, we do know that he will be a modern contemporary man born through a natural birth (beast that arises from the earth); and he will rocket to fame when he dramatically asserts himself as a prophetic representative of and spokesman for the first beast … Antichrist.

Can we, at least, determine the origin or nationality of the False Prophet? The answer to that is, Yes … with a great deal of confidence, but with a disclaimer that it is not an absolute certainty. As always, we will let Scripture do this for us. Regarding the identity of Antichrist, Scripture and history eliminates virtually all speculation as to his identity and his origin … none other than Nero Caesar, the fifth Roman Emperor of the first century. (See my book, Out of the Abyss … can the number of the beast be solved, 666?) Concerning credentials of the false prophet, Scripture reduces suppositions and speculations, and enables us to narrow down the candidates.

The best and most (historically) accurate way to characterize and ascertain a false prophet, including The False Prophet, is to first define a true prophet. That’s why the Bible identifies some prophets as false; because they distort, modify, subtract from, add to, and otherwise falsify the truth. All real truth comes from God, because He IS Truth. By definition, a prophet is false if he declares or prophesies something on his own … not directly from God. Moreover, if the prophecy (meaning with a 100% standard of fulfillment) does not happen, that prophet is a false prophet, not sent by God. (See Deuteronomy Chapters 13 & 18).

Many know about the (true) prophets of God, such as Samuel, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Zechariah and Malachi. All prophets proclaimed the truth, most predicted the truth of future events, some did both, and others actually performed miracles, such as Elijah and Elisha. They came from all different backgrounds, and served in different times over hundreds of years. But they had one thing in common: Beginning with Moses, whether they prophesied to the Jews or to the Gentiles, they were all Jewish prophets. God would not choose a gentile, pagan prophet any more than he would select a gentile to be a king or priest in Israel. Likewise, with the prophesied Messiah … he must be a Jew from the tribe of Judah, from the lineage of King David.

That’s what the nation of Israel is all about: To disclose to the world the one and true living God, and to give to the world God’s truth through his Word, which becomes light, life, and salvation to both Jews and Gentiles. The final, ultimate light was Jesus of Nazareth, the very living Word of God. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1, italics for emphasis).

During the last half of the Great Tribulation, I’m convinced that Moses and Elijah will be the two prophets (witnesses) boldly serving the Lord for 3 ½ years with mighty miracles and judgments to rival or exceed those of the False Prophet. Moreover, I believe these two great prophets will go face to face, toe to toe with the False Prophet in a titanic struggle over the allegiance and very souls of millions on the earth. Who will the people choose: Christ or Antichrist? Whose miracles will be believed—those of Moses and Elijah or the (counterfeit) miracles of the False Prophet?

Will they believe the lie that Nero arose from the dead on his own, with a resurrection power given to him by Satan; facilitated and proven by the miracle of the talking statue and fire brought down from heaven by the False Prophet? Or will they fall back in shock and awe, and respond with a righteous fear of Almighty God and turn to his Messiah, Jesus Christ, when confronted by God’s two commanding witnesses who will, “prophesy during those 1260 days” (Revelation 11:3).

Will they choose Christ over Antichrist when they see the awesome power displayed by Moses and Elijah? Will they even acknowledge that these two men from the ancient past have returned to the earth to testify and, “stand before the Lord of all the earth” (Revelation 11:4)? Will people watch in dismay, the death of anyone who dares oppose these two prophets who are granted divine power by means of, “…fire (that) flashes from their mouths and consumes their enemies … they have power to shut the sky so that no rain will fall for as long as they prophecy. And they have the power to turn the rivers and oceans into blood, and to strike the earth with every kind of plague as often as they wish” (Revelation 11: 5-6)? Or will they harbor fear of the False Prophet as the greater prophet?

(Scripture warns us that today is the day of salvation. It’s far better to choose Yeshua now while there is time. When you die it’s too late. If you are left behind at the Rapture—which could happen any hour of any day—it will be much too hard to choose. Many (most) will choose Antichrist and the False Prophet to avoid deprivation, hunger, and death. If you choose Christ then, you will be put to death for refusing to take the mark of the beast. You will not be able to remain neutral … if you don’t choose, then Antichrist and the False Prophet will choose for you).

What Do False Prophets Have in Common?

Time/space does not permit the dozens of references in the Old Testament that tell about prophets who claimed they were sent by or spoke for God or references in general about false prophets. Except—for purpose of this article—to state that these false prophets also had a common denominator: In addition to being FALSE, they were also Jewish. Or, if they might have been pagan Gentiles (such as some of the prophets of Baal in the story of Elijah on Mount Carmel), they still served and prophesied to/for Jewish kings, such as the wicked King Ahab and his equally wicked wife, Queen Jezebel; who was not Jewish, but, co-reigned because her husband was a Hebrew.

The evidence here is leading to what I believe is a Biblically and historically supported premise: The End-times Tribulation False Prophet will be a Jew.

Because I love the Jewish people, the land of Israel, and the holy city of Jerusalem, I am loath to say that a prominent Jewish politician, priest, or rabbi will most likely assert his popularity, prestige, position in embracing the reappearance of a late/great pagan Roman Emperor. But why not? We’re talking about more than just political expediency; we’re looking at the compelling incentive to acknowledge, esteem, serve, support, and even worship a man who has returned from the dead! Many Jews will be astounded but nevertheless deceived (indeed, people the world over) by the incredible return of Nero Caesar. Many more will be deceived by one of their own, a prominent Jew who will persuade both Jews and Gentiles that Nero is Nero arisen from the dead, not some imposter who thinks he’s clever enough to convince even the intellectuals that he should be worshipped as the Savior of mankind.

Which is why billions left behind (after the Rapture) will not flinch at all when Nero hurls one blasphemous insult after another at the true and living God and His Messiah, Jesus Christ. (See Revelation 13: 5-6). Nor will they blush with embarrassment at trying to cover up or explain away the technological special effects that would normally be necessary in order that a monumental statue to/of/for Nero could talk. They won’t have to find excuses because this statue will actually speak and will order the death of all who think otherwise, i.e. that the statue isn’t actually alive, or that Nero isn’t truly Nero, or that the False Prophet doesn’t really have power to inflict serious harm (and death) on those who resist these diabolical emissaries of Satan. (See Revelation 13: 13-15).

*Note: According to Jesus, there would be false messiahs and false prophets who would deceive many in the end-times (see Matthew Chapter 24). Likely, a few of these prophets will be Gentiles; however, I’m convinced the majority will be Jews, especially THE False Prophet. Let’s read the words of Jesus to support my premise: “For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up and perform great signs and wonders as to deceive, if possible, even God’s chosen ones” (Matthew 24:24, italics for emphasis—some translations read, elect).

The chosen ones identified by Christ are, beyond reasonable doubt, his chosen people, the Jews. For the following reasons: (1) the context of this passage refers primarily to Israel and the Jews, i.e. the sacrilegious object that desecrates the (rebuilt) Temple signaling the immediate need for, “…those in Judea must flee to the hills” (Verse 16). Also, “…pray that your flight will not be in winter or on the Sabbath” (Verse 20, italics for emphasis). (2) When the phrase chosen ones is used, it refers to God’s chosen people, the Jews. (3) As indicated throughout Scripture, it is the Jews who need/want signs and wonders to validate their belief, not the Gentiles. (4) To a Jew (or even to a Gentile Christian) a prophet isn’t really false unless that prophet is a Jew; because, by definition, a pagan prophet is not even a prophet. Of course there are so-called priests and prophets in other religions, but they represent man-made gods that don’t exist. Thus, the prophecies of those would-be prophets who don’t exist by definition are meaningless. Or, saying it another way: They may call themselves prophets, but because they are pagan, they are presumed to be incompetent, irrelevant, and immaterial when it comes to prophesying; therefore, they are not genuine prophets and don’t even merit classification as false. (5) Whenever God warns about false prophets, whether in Deuteronomy, Isaiah, Jeremiah, or anywhere else in Scripture, he is referring to false prophets in/among the Jews. Many of them are identified by name throughout the Old Testament.

Certainly none of the observant/religious Jews in Israel or anywhere in the world, and definitely not very many secular Jews will acknowledge, let alone worship, so-called miracles performed by a Muslim or Christian (in name only as the true Christians will have been taken from the earth in the Rapture) or Hindu or Mormon, or any other religious figure, other than from or on behalf of Judaism. But they would gladly and quickly respond to one of their own, even if that “brother” is promoting a Roman Emperor! If their Jewish prophet can perform such miracles as described in Revelation 13, why shouldn’t/wouldn’t they believe in and surrender to a messiah that the False Prophet endorses?

The Woman and the False Prophet and the Beast

There’s more. As previously demonstrated, the woman (that great city of Rome represented now by the Vatican) will endorse the Antichrist beast. As a result, she will also reach out to the Jewish prophet who performs miracles in order to further convince and subjugate all doubters that Nero is for real. It will be an alliance never before seen on the earth and (thankfully) never will again. It’s quite likely that the Holy sites of Jerusalem will be shared by the Vatican and by orthodox Jewish groups. Through the political and religious alliance of the Antichrist, False Prophet, and the Woman (Rome), even Muslims will be coerced to cooperate; to the extent that a third Jewish temple will be erected on Temple Mount alongside of the Dome of the Rock … or perhaps even in place of it!

The current dialogue, negotiations, and intensified cooperation between the Roman Catholic Church and Jewish officials is a precursor to these remarkable end-times events. Both Catholic and Jewish leaders will give their allegiance to the resurrected beast. So will leaders of Islam, but more reluctantly. And, of course: where leaders lead, followers follow.

However, Nero will overcome Muslim resistance by acknowledging Islam’s god, and even feign worship of Allah. (Refer to Antichrist’s worship of “the god of fortresses” in Daniel Chapter 11, as explained in my book, Out of the Abyss). In the godless period of the Great Tribulation, there will be little problem in reconciling or blending the beliefs of the False Prophet with the Antichrist with the Catholic woman on the beast. Eventually, all of these “religions” will be swept aside in favor of unadulterated worship of a man who has, “no respect … for any other god” (Daniel 11:37). A man, who will proclaim himself as both God and Messiah.

Though there will be national, international, racial, religious, and political liaisons never before seen, this doesn’t mean a one-world religion or one-world government will arise. There will still be many dissenters, especially the Kings of the East. A one-world government means exactly that: All nations of the earth will yield to and participate in a global alliance, which is simply not found in Scripture. A cross-section group of people from all races, languages, nations will blindly follow Antichrist and the False Prophet, just like they follow Jesus Christ, the true Messiah in today’s world; but not necessarily entire governments. Remember there are only ten kings who yield their kingdoms (nations) to Antichrist and his prophet as found in Revelation Chapter 17 … and three of those nations will be forced to surrender (see Daniel 7). On the other hand, Antichrist will have many enemies and dissidents. This is clearly presented in Daniel Chapter 11.

Not until the very last part of the Great Tribulation will the Kings of the East join with Antichrist and his ten-nation confederation, but only for the purpose of doing battle with Jesus Christ, with the Kingdom of God versus the kingdom of Satan at stake.

Summary

What then is the role of the False Prophet? What will he accomplish that no false prophet in Israel’s history or the history of the gentile nations has accomplished? As summarized in Revelation Chapter 13, this False Prophet will validate the identity of the beast (Nero) and help consolidate the (temporary) alliances between the Antichrist’s ten-nation confederation and the Vatican. Because he is Jewish, the False Prophet will persuade Israel to allow Nero to assume control over the outer court of the Gentiles in the rebuilt Temple (Revelation 11:2). This will lead to the cessation of Temple sacrifices half way through the Tribulation, followed by Nero’s desecration of the Holy of Holies near the end of the Tribulation.

Furthermore, the False Prophet will be permitted to perform miracles that no Old Testament false prophets could do, such as calling down fire from heaven. His miracles will further enhance and validate the original miracle that captivated and amazed the entire world … the resurrected return of an ancient Roman Emperor. Most Jews, particularly observant Jews, understand to varying degrees the difference between their true and false prophets as recorded in the Tanakh (the Old Testament). They remember that the 850 prophets of Baal were no match for God’s true prophet, Elijah.

Which is why the False Prophet will so successfully deceive and persuade millions of Jews (probably the same 2/3s of Jews who will be cut-off according to Zechariah 13:8), before the Antichrist breaks his treaty, turns on the Jews, and begins an all-out war against them. How sad … that so many will believe the False Prophet rather than Moses and Elijah.

But it won’t be a cakewalk for this unholy, ungodly coalition. In addition to oriental countries like China and Japan (Kings of the East), other nations such as Egypt, and the two witnesses who will pose a formidable opposition to the Antichrist and his prophet, there will be a continual succession of divine judgments never before experience by mankind. These seal, trumpet, and bowl judgments will disrupt and disprove and erode the power claims made by Nero and his false prophet, as well as the Roman Catholic Church—to the point that the beast and the false prophet will turn on and destroy their Catholic ally. Thereby, revealing their true agenda which has been Satan’s warped, unattainable goal from the beginning: To be like the Most High God by replacing the Kingdom of Heaven with Satan’s kingdom on earth ruled by Satan’s messiah and prophet.

Things to Ponder

You might want to read for yourself the amazing and utter destruction of the Woman (that great city) as explicitly depicted in Revelation Chapter 18. And the precursor of that destruction, vividly described by these graphic words: “The scarlet beast and his ten horns all hate the prostitute. They will strip her naked, eat her flesh, and burn her remains with fire. For God has put a plan into their minds, a plan that will carry out his purposes. They will agree to give their authority to the scarlet beast, and so the words of God will be fulfilled. And this woman you saw in your vision represents the great city that rules over the kings of the world” (Revelation 17:16-18, italics for emphasis).

What is God’s purpose? His words that will be fulfilled?

“Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices shouting in heaven: ‘The world has now become the Kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign forever and ever’” (Revelation 11:15).

“Then I heard a loud voice shouting across the heavens: ‘It has come at last—salvation and power and the Kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ….’” (Revelation 12:10).

IT’S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME. AND THAT TIME IS VERY SHORT!

“Be careful that you do not refuse to listen to the One who is speaking. For if the people of Israel did not escape when they refused to listen to Moses, the earthly messenger, we will certainly not escape if we reject the One who speaks to us from heaven!” (Hebrews 12:25).

The second beast

THE FALSE PROPHET (Part I)

Last week’s article on the Vatican’s designs to take over the building that houses King’s David Tomb highlighted the growing influence of the Pope and the Roman Catholic Church in Israel and in the Holy City of Jerusalem. Would Papal jurisdiction over a site sacred to both the Jews and Christians (the upper room) have any future bearing on the religious and geopolitical interaction between the beast of Revelation, the woman who sits on that beast, and the ruler of Daniel 9 (the beast) who orchestrates a seven-year treaty with Israel? Let’s take a look at some crucial prophetic passages in Scripture to answer this question. Along the way, we’ll discover a second end-times Tribulation beast; a figure who wields a great deal of authority and power

First, let’s once again establish the identity of the (first) beast of Revelation and of the woman who sits on the beast. If necessary, please refer to my book, Out of the Abyss … can the number of the beast be solved, 666? Also Eye of Prophecy articles entitled: Modern Day Antichrist; Antichrist … Is He Alive Today; Reappearance of the Beast (the most popular of the forty-three Eye of Prophecy articles posted to date, in terms of number of visits); The Number of the Beast; The Beast and His Name, posted 9-7-13 through 10-5-13, respectively. All past articles can be accessed through Eye of Prophecy archives.

These sources provide an abundance of Biblical and secular historical evidence to accurately identify and name the Antichrist. As astonishing and unfathomable as it may seem, the supporting facts will, I believe, conclusively demonstrate that the man of lawlessness of II Thessalonians, the king/ruler of Daniel 7 & 9, the king/beast of Revelation 13 & 17, and the Antichrist of I John is none other than the ancient Roman Emperor, Nero. The mystery of the beast is distinctly and emphatically revealed in Revelation 17:8. This beast that John saw, “was once alive but isn’t now” … meaning at the precise time in the first century when John observed the beast from the isle of Patmos. Furthermore, the beast who had already died before John saw him (the beast is a man) will reappear from the dead to the amazement of the entire world!

The mystery of the woman on the beast is also clearly disclosed in Revelation Chapter 17. Concerning the identity of this woman, please refer to Eye of Prophecy articles entitled: The Woman on the Beast (Parts I through VI), posted 10-12-13 through 11-16-13, respectively. Again, you’ll discover ample proof that the woman who is identified as, “the great city that rules over the kings of the world” (Revelation 17:18) is none other than Rome (Roman Empire) the great city of its time when Revelation was written.

During the rise, but particularly after the fall of the mighty Roman Empire, another city gradually, but inexorably assumed the mantle of “Babylon the Great, Mother of All Prostitutes and Obscenities in the World” (Revelation 17:5). This city continued the dominance of the ancient Roman Empire, but in a different form and with diverse methods of influence and intrigue. That city is none other than The Vatican, headquarters of the Holy See, of the Roman Catholic Church … which still exerts tremendous authority and political power through religion, i.e. The Holy Roman Empire.

On the final stage of history, just how will these players interact with one another, thereby, acting out their roles that will—for all intents and purposes—complete God’s final plan to judge the world and usher in the Millennial reign of His Son, our Messiah Jesus? To answer that question, we must include the second beast of Revelation, a man who will tip the scales in favor of the beast’s (Antichrist) inescapable 42-month Great Tribulation dominance over the woman and over Israel.

Antichrist Review

Before we take a look at the False Prophet, we need to again clarify some misconceptions about the first beast of Revelation who arises from the sea, which is the Antichrist. Modern scholars attribute much more credit to this beast that the Bible does … meaning the contemporary notion that the Antichrist will be an extraordinary political, economic, and military genius equipped with an unnatural, mystical ability to persuade billions with his oratory—far exceeding, for example, that of Adolph Hitler. This is a speculative presumption simply not found in Scripture; although this characterization of Antichrist at face value is logical, considering the world-wide impact he will have on the earth. In fact, I held to this view for many years, i.e. that the beast of Revelation would (naturally) be a modern-day man with super impressive skills.

What the Bible does say is this: “I saw that one of the heads of the beast seemed wounded beyond recovery—but the fatal wound was healed! The whole world marveled at this miracle and gave allegiance to the beast. They worshipped the dragon for giving the beast such power, and they also worshipped the beast. ‘Who is as great as the beast?’ they exclaimed. ‘Who is able to fight against him?’” (Revelation 13: 3-4).

What is the miracle that, “the whole world marveled at,” and for this reason, “gave allegiance to the beast”? What was the power given to the beast by the dragon (Satan)? The text is crystal clear as to exactly what that miracle is and is not. “This miracle” is the recovery from a fatal wound. Followed by a return from the abyss as is later reinforced by Revelation 17:8 that says, “…The beast you saw was once alive but isn’t now. And he will soon come up out of the bottomless pit … and the people who belong to this world … will be amazed at the reappearance of the beast who had died.” Contextually the passage in Revelation 13 is equally clear that the power given to the beast by Satan is the same thing that the world marveled at … the phenomenal ability of the beast to recover from his mortal wound.

But the fatal wound is not inflicted after the Antichrist (Nero) returns; since he will have already recovered from that mortal wound before he (re)appears. How do we know that beyond any doubt? Because of the fact that the beast (Antichrist) had already died before John even saw him in the vision. That, and several other reasons as documented in my book and articles, is why the Antichrist simply cannot be a modern-day ruler. And why Nero fits every passage in Scripture that deals with this depraved man.

There is absolutely no other reference point or subject matter in Chapter 13, or Chapter 17, that causes such amazement and worship of the beast other than his recovery and return from the dead. There is no indication, either stated or implied, that people, “from every tribe and people and language and nation” (Revelation 13:7) will follow the beast for any other reason than this resurrection miracle … as they will see and consider it to be. The authority and power given to him (by Satan, as allowed by God) over tribes and nations does not originate from any inherent or innate mega personality attributes possessed or expressed by the beast.

The world isn’t astonished at nor worships the Antichrist because of his superior statesmanship or magnetic speaking ability or charisma or any other attractive trait common to a few dynamic world leaders. That’s the most common misunderstanding of the Antichrist even by astute Bible prophecy scholars. Instead, the world will be utterly mesmerized by a man (well-known and remembered down through history) who reappears when the world needs and wants him the most … a time of complete chaos, confusion, and consternation over the disappearance of a whole lot of people from the earth. (Rapture)

Consequently, billions will yield their allegiance because of one thing and one thing only: They will see the reappearance of the beast as a supernatural return from the dead … a resurrection to equal or exceed that of Jesus Christ. Which is why Nero will be hailed as a messiah, or even The Messiah. “Who is as great as the beast,” or who could possibly, “fight against him.” Meaning how could anyone (if they didn’t believe it was actually Nero and/or chose to oppose him whether he was a resurrected Roman Emperor or not) possibly resist, or kill, or even consider assassinating a man who was invincible … by virtue of returning from the grave. How can you vanquish a man who had already died some 2000 years ago! Forget it. Give up, give in, and take his mark!

This won’t be some imperishable, everlasting Mummy from some silly Hollywood movie! This time it will be as real as the reality that hundreds of millions of people have vanished from the earth.

The False Prophet

Another reason that the Antichrist (Nero) will not be the superman depicted by many prophecy scholars: Without another beast to assist him, not nearly as many people will yield their full allegiance and devotion. Other than the spectacular return from the Abyss, it is not the first beast (Antichrist) who performs miracles and signs or commands that a statue be erected for him; or that everyone must receive his implanted name or number. Rather it is the second beast or the False Prophet who does these things.

Let’s read the description: “Then I saw another beast come up out of the earth … He exercised all the authority of the first beast. And he required all the earth and its people to worship the first beast, whose fatal wound had been healed. He did astounding miracles, even making fire flash down to earth from the sky while everyone was watching. And with all the miracles he was allowed to perform on behalf of the first beast, he deceived all the people who belong to this world. He ordered the people to make a great statue of the first beast, who was fatally wounded and then came back to life. He was permitted to give life to the statue so that it could speak. Then the statue of the beast commanded that anyone refusing to worship it must die” (Revelation 13: 11-15).

It’s the False Prophet who demands that the first beast be worshipped and the text states again the reason: because of the fatal wound that had been healed. Further, that a statue must be erected and worshipped because the first beast who had been fatally wounded had come back to life.

How do we reconcile this with the Apostle Paul’s description of what the man of lawlessness will do? Listen to his words: “This man will come to do the work of Satan with counterfeit power and signs and miracles. He will use every kind of deception to fool those on their way to destruction, because they refuse to love and accept the truth that would save them” (II Thessalonians 2: 9-10, italics for emphasis). Notice that “this man” (who would later be called the beast of Revelation and the Antichrist) comes to do the work of Satan, “with” signs and miracles.

The passage doesn’t actually say that the Antichrist will be the one performing the signs and miracles; rather, that he will do the work of Satan with signs and miracles … meaning that the counterfeit miracles will come along side, be part of, accompany, or contribute to the power wielded by Antichrist. If this passage specifically stated that the man of lawlessness (Antichrist), himself, would perform miracles, then it would conflict with Revelation 13; which explicitly identifies who will handle the miraculous signs, why, and for whom.

As indicated, it’s the beast who arises from the earth (meaning through a natural birth, as opposed to the first beast literally ascending from the sea/Abyss, which is anything but natural) who performs these miracles, “on behalf of the first beast” (Verse 14). The ultimate power possessed and expressed by Antichrist will be directly and exclusively linked to his revival from the dead and return from a 2000-year old grave—actually from the Abyss which is not Hell or the grave, as is thoroughly explained and documented in my book, Out of the Abyss.

The False Prophet will enhance the power and authority of the Antichrist by demonstrations bordering on the supernatural to/for all those who oppose Nero and to those who simply doubt Nero’s actual identity. If people continue to resist worship of this evil man or his statue, they will be put to death. (Revelation 13:15).

The perceived oratorical skills attributed to the Antichrist are pretty much confined to arrogant boasting against and blasphemy of the true and living God and the one and only true Messiah, Jesus Christ. (See Daniel Chapter 7 & 11 and Revelation 13 for details). Otherwise, the Antichrist (Nero) will be mostly a behind-the-scenes dictator, much like he was as Emperor in the first century Roman Empire. The False Prophet and the statue erected by the False Prophet will do most of the talking for Mr. Six Hundred, Sixty-six. Yes, the statue speaks! And I seriously doubt it will do so merely by special effects. Unless you consider demons as special effects!

Of course, there’s one other huge accomplishment that will ingratiate Antichrist to many of those left behind after the Rapture: The Seven-Year Treaty (Daniel Chapter 9) with Israel, and the implied result of a rebuilt 3rd Jewish Temple. In fact, a treaty between Rome and Parthia arranged by Nero Caesar catapulted his popularity into the stratosphere, and endeared him not only to the common Roman citizen but also to the powerful Roman Senate. That treaty was probably his biggest accomplishment during his tenure as Emperor … his main claim to fame (at the time).

Interaction between Antichrist, the False Prophet, the Woman, and the Ten Kings

How then does the recent news of Israel’s potential release of King David’s Tomb to Vatican jurisdictional control in particular and the Roman Catholic Church’s influence in the Holy Land in general fit with the (temporary) alliance of the woman—the great city, which is the Holy Roman Empire’s contemporary replacement of the ancient Roman Empire—and the beast who returns from the Abyss? How might the dynamic duo of the two beasts of Revelation use the power and presence of the woman to accomplish their satanic objectives?

Conversely, how does the woman use the miraculous reappearance of the beast and the equally astounding statue that speaks for the beast, to gain even more prominence throughout the world, especially in Israel? Why does the Antichrist, the False Prophet, and the ten kings who give their kingdoms to the beast turn on the woman and destroy her? And, in keeping with the main theme of next week’s article, who is, or from where does the False Prophet originate?

Don’t miss next week’s Part II article for more details!

Things to Ponder

(1) Do you find it pretty amazing that the Antichrist and his entourage will dare take on Christ, himself? But that’s exactly what he, the False Prophet, the Woman, the ten kings, and, of course Satan will do. The ten kings will agree to surrender themselves and their kingdoms to the Antichrist. “Together they will go to war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will defeat them because he is Lord of all lords and King of all kings. And his called and chosen and faithful ones will be with him” (Revelation 17:14).

That’s right folks. We, who have been redeemed, who will meet our Lord in the clouds at the Rapture, will return with the Lord when he victoriously defeats this unholy, ungodly, and seemingly indestructible force assembled by, “…the dragon, the beast, and the false prophet. They are demonic spirits who work miracles and go out to all the rulers of the world to gather them for battle against the Lord on that great judgment day of God the Almighty” (Revelation 16:13-14). Such a foolish thing for thus diabolical trinity to do … wouldn’t you agree? But then, that is the mystery of iniquity. Though Satan knows full well who will win, that won’t stop him from vainly trying to reach his ultimate goal of being like the Most High God. And, of all things, to use an Anti-Christ to accomplish this warped, but unattainable objective.

(2) I’d like to ask you to “wait and see for yourself” whether or not Nero is, in fact, the beast of Revelation and the Holy Roman Empire is the woman who uses and, in turn, is used by the beast. But I won’t do that; because if you would be watching those things unfold, you will have missed the Rapture. Believe me, you don’t want to be left behind. Christ or Antichrist … who will it be?

CHRIST OR ANTICHRIST (JESUS OR NERO) … who will it be?

From the first century birth, life, death, and resurrection of Messiah Jesus to the present time, many Christians and non-Christians have been seeking to know the identity of Messiah’s arch-enemy, the Antichrist, who is called a little horn, ruler, or king in the Book of Daniel, the man of lawlessness in Paul’s 2nd epistle to the Thessalonica Church, and a beast-king in the book of Revelation. Those not all that interested in Biblical prophecy and/or current events sometimes pose the question: Does it really matter if we know who this man is (will be)? Let’s see if we can answer that question with at least some degree of satisfaction.

In part, this article is a continuation of last week’s topic that established a great deal of relevancy to the Roman conquest of Jerusalem in 70 AD and the remarkable diplomatic outreach of friendship from modern-day Rome (and Germany) to Israel and the Jewish people that these nations sought to destroy. This week’s article will continue the amazing, but nevertheless unmistakable link between the ruler whose armies destroyed Jerusalem and the Jewish Temple, and the end times man who will orchestrate a seven-year treaty with Israel; facilitated by certain contemporary heads of state who are strangely sympathetic to the nation of Israel.

In making this connection, we will revisit the main supposition found in my book, Out of the Abyss, as well as Eye of Prophecy articles found in the category of Antichrist. This astonishing premise comes in two parts: (1) The Antichrist cannot be a modern-day man, born and raised in the Omega (last) generation. Why? Because Revelation 17:8 is explicitly clear: The beast (Antichrist) had historically lived and died before John saw the vision of the beast. And, (2) the ruler of Daniel Chapter 9 whose armies destroyed the temple is the same ruler who will arrange this treaty with Israel at the outset of the seven-year Tribulation period. Moreover, it’s not at all difficult to demonstrate beyond any reasonable doubt which notorious figure from the past precisely fulfilled Daniel’s prophecy. All we need do is to thoroughly examine the text, revisit first century history; then combine points 1 and 2 listed above. When we do this, the prophecy leads us directly to one and only one man: NERO!

Out of the Abyss examines several Biblical passages that provide compelling evidence to document the accuracy of this premise and conclusion. The last passage referred to in the book is found in Daniel Chapter 9. Specifically, I’m referring to the shocking prophecy that predicts the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple. Shocking especially to the Jews, because their second temple hadn’t even been rebuilt; yet here is Daniel telling his people that the temple would be destroyed … obviously referring to a future temple as Solomon’s Temple had already been torn down. Not only shocking, but also unfathomable to Israel after the erection of the second temple, because it was unthinkable to them that the second temple would also be destroyed.

*Note: The book of Daniel was written around 536 BC. The second temple wasn’t finished until 516 BC.

But Biblical prophecy ALWAYS comes to pass. So, let’s take another look at what the angel Gabriel told Daniel: “After this period of sixty-two sets of seven, the Anointed One will be killed, appearing to have accomplished nothing, and a ruler will arise whose armies will destroy the city and the Temple….” (Daniel 9:26a).

Which Roman Emperor Ordered the Campaign Against the Jewish Revolt of 66 AD?

Obviously, this is a rhetorical question, as I’ve already given you the answer and/or you already knew this from reading Out of the Abyss or some of the Eye of Prophecy articles; or perhaps you actually remembered it from a history class or two. But if you did remember it from a World History class in high school or college, or perhaps from a Sunday school class, I guarantee that you are only one of a handful! The vast majority of people, even Christians, have no clue that Nero personally commissioned two generals, Vespasian and Vespasian’s son Titus to crush the Jewish rebellion.

From a Biblical prophecy perspective as well as a historical back-drop, most Bible scholars, pastors, teachers, or historians in general say very little about Nero’s involvement. And for a logical reason: (1) Nero died in June, 68 AD, over two years before the final sack of Jerusalem took place in August, 70 AD. (2) The overriding consensus among even the best of prophecy scholars portrays the Antichrist as a modern-day man—born and raised in the generation that will experience his rise to power. Thus, Nero’s connection to the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple is essentially irrelevant, immaterial, and inconsequential to most students of prophecy.

But, when we intently study Daniel 9:26 and place it’s prediction in a real-life context and a real-time reality that establishes an inseparable link between the ruler and the ruler’s armies of this phenomenal prophecy, there’s only one viable conclusion to make: Nero is that ruler. Nearly two full chapters in Out of the Abyss are dedicated to documentation and rationale showing that it is not a modern-day man born in some current country that was once (2000 years ago) part of the ancient Roman Empire. Rather, Daniel 9 unequivocally attached the ruler that will arise with the actual armies that attacked and destroyed Jerusalem and the Temple. For sake of time and space, I’ll quote just a few excerpts from the book:

“…People of the prince or ruler to come includes all of the prince’s country-men; but more exactly it was the armies (Roman Legions) of this people that fulfilled the prophecy. But whose armies are they? Whose people are they? If you study the text carefully, there is a clear possessive correlation between the ruler and the armies or the people. The New Living Translation simplifies the English to demonstrate this connection by stating that, ‘…a ruler will arise whose armies’ (Italics for emphasis). Whose is possessive, meaning those armies or people specifically belonging to that particular ruler. Or, if you prefer the translation that says, ‘people of the prince,’ the same possessive principle applies. The people directly affiliated, associated, or united with the prince destroyed the Temple’” (Out of the Abyss, page 254-255).

Next, “But Gabriel through Daniel is not saying that the armies of the ruler would first destroy the Temple, and then the ruler would come after that. He’s simply saying that both the ruler and the people of that ruler would come after Messiah is killed. What Gabriel is emphasizing or distinguishing is the fact that the armies of the prince would destroy Jerusalem, instead of the prince and his armies together; that it would be the armies independent of the ruler, with an excessively strong implication that the ruler didn’t live to see the conquest finished” (Out of the Abyss, page 255).

Then, “People of the prince who is to come is a prepositional phrase that demands a possessive correlation. People of the prince who is to come will destroy the city neither prophetically or grammatically state nor even imply that the city would be destroyed before the prince arrived. In other words, this ruler and his armies are inseparably linked together in possessive relationship and in a real-time context” (Out of the Abyss, page 255).

Finally, “Where have you ever read or seen or thought that a ruler of any era would be connected to armies or people hundreds or thousands of years earlier. All monarchs, both in Biblical and secular history, are linked directly with the armies of that particular time of the ruler’s life … But that’s the current hindsight application made by those who hold to a modern-day Antichrist and a Revived Roman Empire. Meaning that this prince who is to come must be born and rise to power after an enormous lapse of time (2000 years), with a 21st century result of an impractical and unrealistic time-capsule detachment from the armies that destroyed the city and the Temple” (Out of the Abyss, pages 256 & 257).

That is why it’s so important to historically remember exactly who it was that ordered the campaign against Israel … which was none other than the Roman Emperor Nero. And because he died prior to the completion of this campaign, it was necessary for the prophet Daniel to specifically tell us that it was actually the armies of the ruler who would destroy Jerusalem, rather than the ruler himself. Because in both ancient and modern times, we invariably credit military victories to the leader. Thus we say that Alexander the Great conquered Persia, not Alexander and his troops.

Then, when we read in Revelation 17:8 that the beast of Revelation (Antichrist) will make his appearance by first coming out of the abyss (with obvious implication that he must first be banished or placed in the abyss), we can much more easily grasp the connection between Nero and his generals/armies that sacked Jerusalem in the 1st century to the “reappearance” of the beast king of Revelation at the outset of the Great Tribulation. And, when we realize that Nero’s name in Hebrew fits precisely with the Gematria number of the beast in Revelation 13 (six hundred, sixty-six), we see overwhelming proof that Nero will return as the Antichrist.

Again quoting Out of the Abyss: “Nor has any conquest, in ancient or modern warfare, been accomplished or even recognized by means of troops conquering a city or country, then the supreme leader (king or emperor) of that army born hundreds of years later or even a few years later. In fact, that makes no sense at all. The only way the armies can be connected to, belong to, controlled or ordered by their leader, is a direct result of the leader—by virtue of being alive—delivering commands to his subordinates; thus, for that ruler to be unequivocally associated with and attached to the people that do the conquering. Make sense? … The passage does not state nor even imply a (far away) future ruler to the Roman Legions of the first century. Instead, we see culpability by direct possessive association with and correlation between first century Rome and a first century Roman ruler” (Out of the Abyss, page 264).

One last quote from my book, “The armies or people who destroyed the city and the Temple were Roman Legions that belonged to Nero, as ultimate Commander-in-Chief of all Roman Legions. These legions are long gone, and couldn’t possibly be the people or armies of a modern-day born Antichrist” (Out of the Abyss, page 264).

We need to think in terms of a Revived Roman Emperor, not a Revived Roman Empire. In my book, I also explain how or in what manner Nero is “revived,” again by using other Scriptural precedents and principles to verify the very event that will captivate and mesmerize hundreds of millions of people left behind at the Rapture … the reappearance of the beast. Which leads us to the answers or reasons why identification of the Antichrist puts into place a significant piece of the prophetic puzzle.

Pre Rapture & Post Rapture Benefits to Knowing the Identity of Antichrist

First, we need to dispel the notion that we are not meant to know the identity of the Antichrist until after the Rapture. To hold to that view is a direct contradiction of Revelation Chapter 13, in which the angel through John challenges the readers of Revelation (which obviously included the 1st century Christians) to “solve” the meaning of the number of the beast, which was one of several critical clues to identify the beast. “Wisdom is needed here. Let the one with understanding solve the meaning of the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. His number is 666” (Revelation 13:18).

Next, to comprehend the mystery of the woman and the scarlet beast on which she sat, as presented in Revelation Chapter 17; which also is equivalent to matching the identity of both the woman and scarlet beast to Rome and the Roman Emperor Nero, respectively. Believe me: it can be done. Read Out of the Abyss or the Eye of Prophecy articles in the category of Antichrist with an open mind. Then decide for yourself. However, our passage of Daniel 9 can stand alone as prophetic and historical proof as to the identity of the ruler and his armies.

Then to understand that ALL of the book of Revelation was written and relevant to 1st century believers, if for no other reason that the imminent return of Christ. Unlike the book of Daniel, which was (temporarily) sealed—meaning that it couldn’t be fully understood until the time of Christ—the angel told John, “Do not seal up the prophetic words in this book, for the time is near” (Revelation 22:10).

As thoroughly documented in my book, I’m convinced that the 1st century Christians knew beyond any doubt that Nero was the Antichrist. This is what the modern-day Preterists contend, however, they overlooked or distorted one monumental fact: The return of Nero as the Antichrist. In order for their premise that Nero was the beast of Revelation to be correct, they had to symbolize nearly all of the events of Revelation, including most of the twenty-one seal, trumpet, and bowl judgments of God. In other words, they claim that the Tribulation took place in the 1st century, which simply did not happen. Essentially, they missed or discounted or ignored the amazing mystery disclosed by the angel to John in Chapter 17, specifically verse 8: The beast had lived and died BEFORE the vision of the beast was given to John. BUT, the beast would reappear from the abyss! That reappearance could have occurred in the 1st century or any century thereafter, as the only event to precede it would be the Rapture itself … which has always been the imminent hope of every believer.

It’s vital that we grasp this before the Rapture takes place, so that the post-Rapture population will realize that the Bible was right after all, i.e. concerning the identity of the beast of Revelation, who is the little horn of Daniel, and the man of lawlessness depicted in Paul’s epistle to the Thessalonians.

According to Revelation 17:8, the beast who had died (before John saw the vision of the beast), will ascend from the abyss, and many, “…will be amazed at the reappearance of the beast who had died.” The source of this amazement is also recognized in John’s first vision of the beast by the following description: “I saw that one of the heads of the beast seemed wounded beyond recovery—but the fatal would was healed! The whole world marveled at this miracle and gave allegiance to the beast. They worshipped the dragon for giving the beast such power, and they also worshipped the beast. Who is as great as the beast? They exclaimed. Who is able to fight against him?’” (Revelation 13: 3-4).

What is the miracle that caused such astonishment (marvel) and what is it that will lead to unadulterated worship of and allegiance to the Antichrist? What was the great power given to the beast by the dragon? Was it his charisma, or eloquence, or statesmanship, or leadership traits, or all-inclusive genius? NO, it was one and one thing only … his spectacular recovery from the deadly wound (death) and return from the grave! This is what will appeal to people from “every tribe and people and language and nation” (Revelation 13:7). And, this is why the ten kings of Revelation 17 and Daniel 7 will yield to the authority of the beast-king.

But, if some (hopefully many) who are left behind at the Rapture grasp the truth that the revived Roman Emperor Nero’s return was predicted 2000 years ago by John in the book of Revelation, and 2600 years ago by the prophet Daniel (as explained in this article), they will not be “amazed” at such a thing. They will look back and realize that the Bible foretold this all along. And perhaps, just maybe, they will choose Christ instead of Antichrist.

The Choice (Who will you believe?)

“But despite all the miraculous signs Jesus had done, most of the people still did not believe in him. This is exactly what Isaiah the prophet had predicted: ‘Lord, who has believed our message? To whom has the Lord revealed his powerful arm?’” (John 12:37-38). Then the passage goes on to say: “Isaiah was referring to Jesus when he said this, because he saw the future and spoke of the Messiah’s glory. Many people did believe in him, however, including some of the Jewish leaders. But they wouldn’t admit it for fear the Pharisees would expel them from the synagogue. For they loved human praise more than the praise of God” (John 12: 41-43).

In Isaiah’s time, in Jesus’s time, and in our time, people would not believe despite the overwhelming evidence that Jesus is, in fact, the Son of God; who died on the cross to purchase our redemption, and to save us from our sins and the penalty of those sins … eternal separation from God. How much more proof does someone need, than the historical fact that Jesus arose from the dead!?

After the Rapture, there will be no more fence-sitting; nor more gray areas or indecision or neutrality concerning the claims of Christ or his antithesis. Why? Because the claims of Antichrist will force people to decide one way or the other. At first, Nero will ask for your loyalty and allegiance, citing his miraculous return from the grave 2000 years after he died. Later, however, he will insist on it, to the extent of demanding that everyone take his mark if they want to buy, sell, eat, and otherwise experience some semblance of safety, security, and prosperity. He will demand that you acknowledge him as the Messiah. He will seek to kill all those who do not bow down in complete surrender to him or to his statue. He will claim that he is divine and the only real God on earth. (See II Thessalonians 2).

If you are reading this article after the Rapture, you already know that the man who fills your television screen, your laptop, your Ipad is none other than the ancient Roman Emperor Nero. Already you have been reminded incessantly that he returned from a 2000-year old grave. Therefore, he is divine; for what other man could possibly do that? But then you look around and realize again that hundreds of millions of people are gone. Who took them? Where are they? But you know … how could you not know?

What more do you need to realize that Jesus is the true Christ, the divine Son of the true and living God? What more evidence must you have to understand that all those people who were taken from the earth belonged to Messiah Jesus? Who else could have done such a miraculous thing … to suddenly take so many people from the earth before your very eyes? Certainly not Nero. In fact, he will have already ranted and raved against the Most High God by accusing him of robbing the earth of so many people. And in the same breath, expressing relief that the earth has been cleansed of those bigoted Christians, who intolerantly stood in the way of the real Utopia that only Nero can bring to the earth.

What will you believe? The Truth or the Lie? Who will you choose? Christ or Antichrist? Will you realize that whatever power Nero wields was given to him by Satan? But even that power was given by God. “Then the beast was allowed to speak great blasphemies against God. And he was given authority to do whatever he wanted for forty-two months” (Revelation 13:5, italics for emphasis).

Now is the Day of Salvation

Why wait until after the Rapture to choose everlasting life in heaven that only Christ can give you? It will be so much harder then. In fact, to choose Christ after you’ve been left behind will mean certain death. “…Then the statue of the beast commanded that anyone refusing to worship it must die” (Revelation 13:15).

Just as in Jesus’s day, many understood him to be the Messiah, but they refused to personally invite him to be their Savior. Why didn’t they take that next step, and accept him as their redeemer and God? It certainly wasn’t a matter of physical life or death to them. No, they wouldn’t admit it for fear that the religious leaders would spurn them and they would lose their positions, popularity, prestige, and lives of pleasure.

But during the Tribulation, it will be a matter of your very survival … of deprivation of housing, transportation, clothing, and food. It will be a literal choice between life and death. If you choose Christ, you will live forever; you will be saved from hell, but not from the wrath of God and the wrath of the beast as the tribulation plays out. So, why wait? Or as believers, why wait to tell someone we love that the time is very short?

Choose Jesus now and be among those who will be wonderfully transformed at the Rapture. If you have already died by then, you will be resurrected. If you are still alive at that time, you will instantly be given a glorified body that will equip you to live in Heaven forever. No more pain, or tears, or heartache, or suffering. No more death.

“He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him” (John 3:36, NASB).

To not make a decision is to say, “No” to Jesus. To put this destiny-changing, life-giving decision off is to face the horrible evil of the Antichrist during the Tribulation, and the wrath of a loving, but holy God. To reject the awesome love of God as demonstrated by the amazing gift of God’s Son to the human race which meant that Christ had to make the greatest sacrifice of all time (His very blood and life), is to separate yourself from God and from the host of heaven for all eternity in hell. There’s no sugar-coating this harsh reality.

Even now, it could be a difficult choice for you. You might experience ridicule from friends or family. You might be subject to outright persecution, especially if you live in a Muslim country or in an atheistic nation like Russia or China. Even many in the United States and Europe are expressing a great deal of hostility and intolerance toward Christians and the Bible.

After the Rapture, however, the decision will increase tenfold in intensity and difficulty; with the inevitable consequence that the Antichrist will eventually choose for you. Take the mark of the beast and have a few months or years of relative security (maybe) on an earth destined for judgment and extreme makeover; or choose Christ and live forever. But your forever might begin soon afterward, as Nero and the False Prophet will hunt you down.

Here’s what is said about the Christian saints of the Tribulation: “…And they did not love their lives so much that they were afraid to die” (Revelation 12:11). However, the vast majority of those left behind, those who do not die in the plagues will, “…refuse to repent of their evil deeds and turn to God” (Revelation 9:20).

So, I implore you: Choose Christ now. To do so is to choose life … everlasting life. And you won’t even have to make the hardest choice anyone will ever have to make after the Rapture: Christ or Antichrist. Jesus or Nero?

Things to Ponder:
– During the Great Tribulation, it will take extreme courage, ultimate bravery to reject the mark of the Beast and to choose the true Messiah, Jesus. But why put yourself through that? Why delay your decision and risk dying without Christ now or even worse … living and dying without Christ during the Tribulation?
– What are you waiting for? What are you holding onto? Remember the words of Jesus: “And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?” (Mark 8: 36-37).

The End of the Age … how close are we?

HOW CLOSE ARE WE?

(12th and final article in the series based on the book, Out of the Abyss … can the number of the beast be solved, 666?)

The time is very near for the most spectacular event in human history since the miraculous birth, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ … the Rapture. The first five articles of this blog site captured in fairly extensive detail many features of this stunning event; followed by five articles to identify the Antichrist, then six more articles to disclose and document the characteristics of the woman who forms an alliance with the beast. This blog is the twelfth and final article to bring all this together and also to lead into next week’s topic that will focus on current events.

When the Rapture occurs, it will usher in the astonishing reappearance of the beast; an unheard of and seemingly impossible seven year treaty between Israel and the Muslin nations; followed by the greatest natural and man-made episodes of destruction and death in human history (four horsemen of the apocalypse) interspersed with massive God-directed judgments; culminating in the glorious appearing (return) of Messiah Jesus. The Book of Revelation even discloses the approximate number who will perish … one half of the earth’s population. Not too long ago, the world’s head-count reached seven billion. Although we have no idea exactly how many will be taken at the Rapture (my own estimation is one out of seven or about one billion), somewhere around three billion people will die during the Great Tribulation. Put this in the context of roughly 40 million killed during World War II, makes the tribulation casualty count nothing less than staggering … mind boggling.

I’m not sure we fully understand just how close it is. We’ve reached the apex of wars and rumors of wars that Jesus warned about in Matthew 24. World War III will not be another war with a winning and losing side as experienced in the first two world wars; only for the world to return to a semblance of peace while it awaits yet another global conflict. With the horrific weaponry, not the least of which is nuclear, the world simply could not sustain or survive another world war; unless God, himself, intervened. Most social, political, economic, and military experts agree that another global conflict would, in fact, be the war to end all wars, an end to civilization itself. Whether by an evil rogue nation that would unleash a nuclear bomb on another country or by a nuclear armed nation desperately trying to defend itself, it is virtually inevitable that these weapons of mass destruction would be employed in the next global war.

We’re approaching the end of the famines and earthquakes in many parts of the world that are also part of the birth pangs foretold by Christ; although there will be a few more to come. In the past few decades, we’ve witnessed an unprecedented increase in both the frequency and severity of world-wide catastrophes, such as massive tsunamis, incredibly destructive tornadoes, repulsive plagues (Aids virus), tragic famines, and shocking earthquakes of 7.0 or higher magnitude.

Listen to the words of Jesus: “For there will be greater anguish than at any time since the world began. And it will never be so great again. In fact, unless that time of calamity is shortened, not a single person will survive. But it will be shortened for the sake of God’s chosen ones” (Matthew 24: 21-22).

What makes the current rumors of war so different from past conflicts is Scripture’s timetable predictions that in the very last days Israel and Jerusalem would be the center of world attention and tension. Before our very eyes, day after day we are witnessing precise fulfillment of Biblical prophecy in the Middle East, the most startling of which is Iran’s (and other nations) recent publicized threats to wipe Israel off the face of the earth. The words spoken by Iran’s former president are eerily similar, if not identical to the prophetic words of Scripture. “Come, they say, ‘let us wipe out Israel as a nation. We will destroy the very memory of its existence’” (Psalms 83:4).

Our Generation

That’s how close we are. If/when a nation’s leader articulates the last day prophetic words that the Bible says will be uttered, it won’t be successive generations that will experience the anxiety and consequences of those threats; it will be that very generation! A parallel example (one that was good) is God’s prediction through the prophet Isaiah that a Persian ruler, whom God even named before the ruler was born (Cyrus), would issue a decree for the Jewish exiles to return to Israel. Isaiah even prophesies the words that Cyrus would declare some 150 years later, “When I say of Cyrus, ‘He is my shepherd,’ he will certainly do as I say. He will command, ‘Rebuild Jerusalem’; he will say, ‘Restore the Temple’’’ (Isaiah 44:28). If you like, read Ezra 1:2-4; which is the decree that Cyrus announced, fulfilling Isaiah’s prophecy.

This Iranian (along with other Shiite groups) threat is much more than idle boasting. The Iranians are serious—backing it up with their own messianic claims that Islam’s Madhi (messiah) is waiting for a massive intifada (Muslim uprising) against Israel and those who support Israel. Iran is banking on its ability to quickly finish years of nuclear development to provide enough enriched uranium to arm a nuclear warhead or two, or three. Depending on which intelligence sources are accurate, this could be a few weeks, but no longer than a few months.

There is no doubt with those leaders in Israel, who fully understand the mindset of their enemies, that Iran is not bluffing; that Iran’s megalomaniac rulers would detonate a nuclear device in Israel, if they had the capacity to do so. A preemptive strike by Israel would lead to Muslim reprisals that would engulf the entire Middle East in a conflict that would dwarf past wars in Israel. One that could be a catalyst to persuade the superpowers to take sides; one that would lead to global war and the apocalyptic carnage that today’s super weapons can inflict.

What we read in today’s headlines involves much more than just sabre rattling. We are watching Israel’s mortal enemies defy United Nations sponsored economic sanctions against them as their very economy begins to collapse around them. Their hatred for the Jews and all who would align themselves with Israel is both irrational and irreversible. They would rather die than give up their diabolical pursuit of Israel’s annihilation. And, they would love to see the United States brought to her knees.

The upsurge of international tension fostered by civil war in Syria, unprecedented strife between Sunni and Shiite Muslims, especially in Egypt, the overt and covert support of most Muslim nations (including Iran) by Russia, China, and North Korea, the ambiguous waffling of the United States between isolationism and support of Israel cannot possibly remain in a vacuum. Like any other balloon such as the economic bubble that burst in the US in 2008, you can’t keep filling the balloon with hot air indefinitely. Something has to give.

Animosity even exists between Shiite branch ultra-conservative Muslim countries such as Saudi Arabia and Iran. Saudi Arabia is extremely fearful of a nuclear armed Iran, so much so that they are prepared to purchase nuclear weapons from Pakistan should Iran’s centrifuges produce the required amount of enriched uranium. You see, the Saudis are wealthy enough to simply buy nuclear warheads Rich enough? Instant nukes … just buy them!

Danger! Red Lines Ahead

The greatest of these dangers to the United States is the recent and blatant disregard for Israel’s security, via appeasement of Iran over the UN sanctions. Our President simply doesn’t grasp the senseless hostility of many Muslim nations and groups against Israel and against the United States. Or, if he does understand the malicious intentions of both radical and moderate Muslims, then we can only wonder about our President’s real objectives. No amount of negotiation or concessions will dissuade or deter radical Muslim leaders, especially Iran, from accomplishing their malevolent design of world domination. At the very best, negotiations will only delay Islam’s renewed effort to accomplish its goal of world-wide implementation of Sharia law through jihad (holy war). At the very worst, more concessions will intensify and accelerate the insane and apocalyptic ambitions of rogue nations such as Iran.

The current administration has already backed away from the red line it drew in Syria, regarding Syria’s use of chemical weapons on its own people. Our President had promised reprisals against the Syrian government should this red line be crossed. The red line is now a yellow line: let’s be cautious and not rush into doing what we said would be done. Another red line drawn through Iran has also been blurred. According to the current administration, there’s no way the US would allow Iran to fully develop nuclear weapons. As this article is being written, our President and his staff have not only retreated from this red line, they are contemplating the relaxation of economic sanctions that have at least delayed the relentless goal of Iran—the possession and unthinkable use of a nuclear arsenal.

Why are these things so dangerous to our country? Because we are perilously close to crossing the red line that God, himself, has drawn around Israel. It is the line that became symbolically visible when God called Abraham to leave his home, and journey to the land that would be given to him and his descendants forever. I repeat for emphasis: Forever. This unconditional covenant includes a wonderful promise for Abraham and his descendants (the Jews) that included the Gentile nations. It also contained an ominous warning to these nations. God said to Abraham: “I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you” (Genesis 12: 2-3).

In just the last few years these verses have been quoted many times by Evangelical Christians who support Israel, by Messianic Jewish leaders, by observant (religious) Jews, even by secular Jews … by all those who understand the history of and purpose for the very existence of Israel. One of these purposes is to be a light for the Gentile nations, by bringing to the world the “light of the world,” Messiah Jesus.

In direct proportion to or even greater proportion (depending on the extent of God’s mercy) that the United States withdraws support of Israel, God will remove his support of our nation, or any nation. To the extent that the US does not recognize Israel’s sovereign right of freedom to build more settlements in Judea and Samaria, the God-given rights and freedom of this country will be taken away from us. In the measure that our government ignores and even jeopardizes the security and safety of Israel or lessens its economic and military aid to Israel, God will remove his protection and prosperity from this wonderful nation we call the United States of America.

“Now then, you kings, act wisely! Be warned, you rulers of the earth! Serve the Lord with reverent fear, and rejoice with trembling. Submit to God’s royal Son, or he will become angry, and you will be destroyed in the midst of all your activities—for his anger flares up in an instant. But what joy for all who take refuge in him!” (Psalms 2: 10-12).

Numbers in the Bible

As explained in my book, Out of the Abyss, numbers are an integral part of the Bible. Both literally and symbolically certain numbers specifically represent and depict the interaction of God in human affairs. The significance of the number forty, whether days or years, in Scripture is that it constitutes a period of testing, trial, or preparation for an individual or nation. Included in this preparation is a lesson of patience and dependence upon God; waiting for God to instill in his people a total awareness of the need to completely trust him for what comes next … all the while developing determination and courage to fulfill the purpose of God.

Moses was on Mount Sinai for 40 days/nights, while the Israelites were being tested and primed to receive the greatest (at that time) revelation from God ever given to mankind—the complete law of God. For 40 years the Hebrews wandered in the wilderness to learn from their mistake of not trusting God; but also to prepare them for what would be some of the greatest battles they would ever fight in the early history of their nation, in order to enter, conquer, and possess the Promised Land. Israel’s first King, Saul, reigned for forty years while God was preparing another King (David) “a man after his own heart” to finally conquer Israel’s enemies and unify the twelve tribes into one nation. King David ruled for 40 years to prepare Israel for the generation to follow, one in which Israel experienced total peace and prosperity under King Solomon, who also ruled for 40 years.

It’s been forty years since the last major war in Israel … the Yom Kippur War of 1973. I believe that it is more than mere coincidence that the current life and death (for that is what it is to Israel) issues over a nuclear Iran and its sworn determination to annihilate Israel, has entirely seized the attention, time, energy, skills, resources, and patience of the world’s superpowers. Likewise, it’s more than a random interval that this 40-year period of time has brought Israel and the world to the brink of a regional and potential global conflict with consequences so devastating that only the return of Messiah will save Israel from extinction and the world from unparalleled savagery.

By means of blog sites, web sites, emails, articles, newspaper, books, and other internet news sources, I keep a very close eye on Jerusalem, Israel, and the Middle East as a whole. I am not alone in my observation: Not since just a few decades before the birth of Jesus, have the Jews expressed a more intense and enthusiastic longing for Israel’s Messiah, as they do today.

Tragically, God’s own people rejected their Messiah after he was born in Bethlehem of a virgin; with equal tragedy they have paid an enormous price for missing Messiah’s first visitation. Although most Jews of today’s world await what they believe is the first appearance of Messiah, while we Christians are waiting for his return, the fact remains: Messiah will arrive at the appointed time to rescue Israel from her enemies in a miraculous fashion.

Make no mistake: God still loves Israel and has not forgotten her. He is willing that all of Israel would be saved–along with many Gentiles; saved from their individual sins and the penalty of sin (everlasting separation from God) and saved from national ruin by their enemies.

Summary

God waits in Heaven for the precise moment when he will send his Son back to this earth to complete the majestic plan of salvation and to deliver what the Bible calls God’s “special possession” from utter defeat at the hands of her adversaries.

We who are believers in the death, burial, and resurrection of the Son of Man, the Son of David, and the Son of God also wait for our deliverance from this ungodly world, a world gone mad … blinded by the god of this world who seeks to destroy the true Church of God and the very nation of Israel from where Messiah will rule and reign.

The beast awaits his release from the Abyss to regain the glory he once had, and then to expand that glory on a truly global scale. The woman waits and longs for another opportunity to establish a mighty ecclesiastical kingdom that rules over the kings of the earth.

“For the essence of prophecy is to give a clear witness for Jesus.” The time is short … very, very short for us to give such a witness on behalf of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. Look to 2014 and 2015 for some extraordinary events … some things that might even signal the beginning of the end. I certainly am not making any predictions for the Rapture, i.e. day or hour. It could be next year, the year after, three years, or it could be while you’re reading this article!

“The land of Judah will be the Lord’s special possession in the holy land, and he will once again choose Jerusalem to be his own city. Be silent before the Lord, all humanity, for he is springing into action from his holy dwelling” (Zechariah 2: 12-13).

Things to Ponder

Is your hope in the return of Messiah Jesus growing stronger? Do you see how Biblical prophecy is coming more alive and active every day, by the unfolding of events in the Middle East? Is it becoming clearer that we are on the precipice of something huge, of a bubble about to burst because it has been stretched beyond capacity by the ominous confrontations of nations against nations? Are you listening for the final trumpet call of God? Are you looking up? Soon, it could be very soon!

THE WOMAN AND THE BEAST (Part VI)

11th article in a series based on the book, Out of the Abyss … can the number of the beast be solved, 666?) This is also the final article in a six part series of the Woman and the Beast

The Woman Identified by Her Clothing

I never cease to be amazed by the meticulous detail found in so many Biblical passages. Most of three full chapters (Revelation 17, 18, & 19) talk about the Beast who reappears from the Abyss and the Woman who sits on the Beast. As we’ve seen in the five articles on the Antichrist and now the six articles on the Woman, the Beast is Nero and the Woman is both ancient Rome and the subsequent Holy Roman Church. Specifically I’m referring to the actual articles of clothing worn by the woman in John’s vision. Let’s see how this apparel matches precisely with the attire of the Roman Catholic Church … literally.

“The woman wore purple and scarlet clothing and beautiful jewelry made of gold and precious gems and pearls….” (Revelation 17:4a). Why would the vision given to John include a description of the woman’s apparel? Answer: For the same reason that most of the visions in Revelation provide specific portrayals of people, places, and things—for the purpose of explaining exactly what will happen, what to look for, or what can be expected during the unfolding of the last days, including the Great Tribulation. Because, however, the visions of Revelation were given to John in the first century, all that has transpired to the present day is historical, to us. It is this history of the woman that we have been examining in the past few articles.

For example: “The armies of heaven, dressed in the finest of pure white linen, followed him on white horses” (Revelation 19:14). The “him” of this verse is Christ; the “armies” are all believers in heaven who will accompany Jesus during the final battle of Armageddon. It’s true that the white linen symbolically represents purity (cleansed by the blood of Christ), but the color white is also literal in this verse and other passages in the Bible. Same thing with the woman on the beast: The colors purple and scarlet are literally what adorns the woman, although they represent royalty and power/importance respectively.

Notice the sequence of the colors in Revelation 17:4; purple first, then scarlet. That is not just a random order of the colors. It’s far beyond mere coincidence that only the Roman Emperors were permitted to wear the “trabea” which was a deep purple toga; because purple was the color of both royalty and divinity in the Roman Empire and with other nations/monarchs. The Woman (that great city that rules over the kings of the world) was first embodied by the Roman Empire. When the Roman Empire fell, the Holy See filled the vacuum that had created an unstable, unguided, uncertain future for most nations within the realm of the Roman Empire.

The main color of the Roman Catholic Church was and still is red or scarlet; even though there are four main colors used in Catholicism … white, purple, red, and green … depending on the specific celebration or occasion. Not only was the Roman Empire recognized for its vast wealth (“beautiful jewelry made of gold and precious gems and pearls”), but so was the Roman Catholic Church known for its lavish prosperity and display of precious metals in/on clothing, edifices, artifacts, and instruments involved in the sacraments.

Of more than passing interest is the fact that for the first three centuries, the only color worn by church officials was the color white. Not until the Roman Catholic Church began to assert her authority and prominence over individual churches did purple and scarlet begin to replace white as the dominate liturgical colors.

Coat of Arms: For those not familiar with Coat of Arms, it’s simply an insignia normally in the shape of a shield worn (as clothing) or carried on flags or banners by kings/queens, nobility, and soldiers to represent a nation’s heraldry. Webster’s Dictionary defines heraldry as, “the practice of devising, blazoning, and granting armorial insignia…” Not long after kings and nations began to use insignia in the middle Ages, the Holy See soon followed with its Coat of Arms. And, for the last 800 years or so, each Pope has designed his own coat of arms in addition to the traditional symbols found on the Apostolic See’s Coat of Arms, such as two crossed keys, one gold and the other silver. Again, this demonstrates a pattern throughout Roman Catholic Church history to rival and exceed the authority of kings, whether these kings endorsed Catholic dogma or not.

The current Pontiff is Pope Francis who recently succeeded Pope Benedict XVI (Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger), who inexplicably and suddenly resigned. Pope Benedict XVI chose a coat of arms (in keeping with past Popes) with symbols that best represented what was important to him—historically, theologically, personally, and traditionally. Time does not permit discussion of the individual symbols, except to say that the three emblems on the front of the shield (a Moor’s head, a bear, and a scallop shell) have a strange, enigmatic history. The dominant color of the shield is red, with gold as a strong second color.

What I want to focus on is the fundamental shape of the entire shield itself, which is the most universally used form in Roman Catholic heraldry: a chalice. Synonyms for chalice are: cup, vessel, and goblet. Most of us know about the Holy Grail, from King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. The legend of the Holy Grail (the cup that Jesus drank from at the Last Supper) began some 1500 years ago; though the actual cup used by Jesus has no literal or symbolic importance in Scripture whatsoever. Yet, the Catholic Church places great significance on this relic, and the composite chalice shape of the Coat of Arms is not simply a coincidence. Nor is utilization of the word, “goblet” in Revelation 17:4 and the goblet shaped Coat of Arms a random correlation; rather, there is an unmistakable connection between the chalice imagery of Roman Catholicism and the golden goblet held in the hand of the woman on the beast. It’s one of many identifying features of the woman of Revelation 17 & 18 that can be seen explicitly throughout Roman Catholic history and in the modern-day world.

The Woman Identified by Her Morality

“…In her hand she held a gold goblet full of obscenities and the impurities of her immorality” (Revelation 17:4b). The Greek word for obscenities (or abominations as found in other Bible translations) is: bdelgma, pronounced bdel-oog-mah. It means foul or detestable. Since we’ve already touched on this subject, and because the primary purpose of these articles is to disclose and document the dual features and identity of the woman who sits on the beast, there is no purpose in elaborating on the myriad events that can be found throughout the history of the Roman Catholic Church. Except to say that many incidents involving the Catholic Church can only be seen as “immoral” and “detestable”; not the least of which is the recent and ongoing world-wide scandal of Catholic priests and the abuse of children. Both social and religious leaders attribute this abuse primarily to the vow of celibacy required for all Catholic priests. Nowhere in the New Testament does it command that church leaders take a vow of celibacy for any purpose whatsoever, other than personal preference … which doesn’t require a vow. Even the so-called first Pope of the Catholic Church, Peter, had a wife!

Regrettably, there have been reprehensible scandals involving Protestant and even Evangelical church leaders, but nothing approaching the enormity of distasteful incidents throughout Catholic Church history. Nor is this a comparison based just on the number of offenses; rather, it’s a matter of simply matching the historical development and record of the Catholic Church to prophetic passages found in the book of Revelation. Furthermore, I am not bashing individual members of the Catholic Church. Rather, I hope and pray that they will do as Revelation 18:4 pleads with them to do: “Come away from her, my people. Do not take part in her sins, or you will be punished with her.” Revelation Chapter 18 provides more descriptive details of the great city (woman) Babylon, which as we’ve studied is an encryption for Rome. Such as, “For all the nations have fallen because of the wine of her passionate immorality. The kings of the world have committed adultery with her. Because of her desires for extravagant luxury, the merchants of the world have grown rich” (Revelation 18:3).

The Woman Identified by Her Persecution

“I could see that she was drunk—drunk with the blood of God’s holy people who were witnesses for Jesus. I stared at her in complete amazement” (Revelation 17:6). Sadly, the history of the Catholic Church is replete with periods of repression, persecution, torture, and killing of those Catholicism classified as heretical, dissident, unorthodox, or even uncooperative, non-conforming trouble-makers. Who hasn’t heard or read something about the Crusades, Joan of Arc, or the Spanish Inquisition; just to mention the major periods of oppression against anyone who would dare defy the Supreme Pontiff and Roman Catholic divine right of rule. Wars (both cold and hot) were fought between Catholics and Protestants, between the Papacy and Monarchs, and within the Catholic Church itself.

Nowhere in Scripture do we find that the Kingdom of God on this earth (which is currently in the hearts of individual believers) is to be defended or extended by suppressive force, i.e. overt or covert persecution, repressive tyranny, or by warfare. Only when Christ returns will there be the need to conquer the enemies of Christ, of Israel, and of tribulation saints. “Then I saw heaven opened, and a white horse was standing there. Its rider was named Faithful and True, for he judges fairly and wages a righteous war” (Revelation 19:11). As the text states: this will be a just and righteous campaign … contrary to the unjust and unrighteous subjugation of dissenters to the Catholic Church.

The Future of the Woman

Although the comprehensive world-wide influence of the Catholic Church has somewhat declined in the last 200 years or so—more so in the political and economic arenas of the world—she will once again rise to power during the Great Tribulation. After all, the Catholic Church claims around 1.2 billion members in today’s world, so there has been no substantial decline in the sheer number of people. In fact, we have seen a resurgence of interest in recent Popes, particularly the previous two, Pope John Paul II, Pope Benedict XVI, and the current Pope Francis. Recently Pope Francis reached the number one position of the most “talked-about” person thus far in 2013.

Soon after the Rapture, followed by reappearance of the beast (Nero) she will “sit on the beast” for both support and control. But, as so often happens with incompatible bedfellows, especially with ungodly alliances, will also happen to the Woman as graphically depicted in Revelation. “The scarlet beast and his ten horns all hate the prostitute. They will strip her naked, eat her flesh, and burn her remains with fire” (Revelation 17:16).

These are very strong words/images to declare the demise of the Woman, the Great City. But there’s more: “How terrible, how terrible for that great city! She was clothed in finest purple and scarlet linens, decked out with gold and precious stones and pearls! In a single moment all the wealth of the city is gone! And all the captains on the merchant ships and their passengers and sailors and crews will stand at a distance. They will cry out as they watch the smoke ascend, and they will say, ‘Where is another city as great as this?’ And they will weep and throw dust on their heads to show their grief…” (Revelation 18: 15-18).

*Note– Although Rome is inland from the Mediterranean Sea, if the entire city went up in flames, the smoke could be seen by those on ships in the Mediterranean. Not so with Babylon (Iraq). Just another passage to validate that the great city is Rome and all that Rome contains, including the Vatican.

Summary

And, so the bedfellow relationship between the woman on the beast and the kings of the earth will reach its climatic zenith during the Great Tribulation. The Roman Catholic Church (and other ecclesiastical systems with similar false gospels and hierarchical control over their members) will seek an alliance with the Beast (Nero) who reappears from the Abyss, and his ten-kingdom coalition. For a period of time this unholy union will succeed; but with great indignation and fury the Beast will turn on the woman and destroy her. And, this time, God himself will orchestrate first the destruction of Babylon the Great (Rome), then total victory over the Beast and all nations who would dare oppose Messiah Jesus. “For God has put a plan into their minds, a plan that will carry out his purposes…” (Revelation 17:17a).

For a short time, probably 42 months following the Rapture, the Holy Roman Church will achieve its never-ending objective: religious and political restoration of the mighty Roman Empire. And for a period of time, the revived Roman Emperor Nero will be a willing accomplice. Ironically, those left behind that belong to the world will direct their worship to the risen beast, which means that the Woman on the beast will have no alternative but to “go along with the ride.”

But let’s not leave it here. Let’s look at the ending that resounds with the final victory of our Lord Jesus Christ. Revelation Chapter 18 begins and ends with a stunning description of Rome’s destruction. Then Chapter 19 begins with, “After this I heard what sounded like a vast crowd in heaven shouting, ‘Praise the Lord! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God. His judgments are true and just. He has punished the great prostitute who corrupted the earth with her immorality. He has avenged the murder of his servants’” (Revelation 19:1-2). Then in verse three we read, “And again their voices rang out: ‘Praise the Lord! The smoke from that city ascends forever and ever.’”

Later in this same chapter we read, “Then I saw the beast and the kings of the world and their armies gathered together to fight against the one sitting on the horse and his army. And the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet … Both the beast and his false prophet were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur” (Revelation 19: 19-20).

Thus, Satan’s two-front war consisting of hostile annihilation of believers in Christ through kings and governments along with Satan’s more subtle strategy of infiltration through a religious system that distorts the truth of the Gospel and seeks to capture and destroy the very souls of men and woman, will be utterly defeated by the King of all kings (empires) and the Lord of all lords (ecclesiastical).

Hallelujah to the Lamb of God! My Redeemer Lives! Let the redeemed of the Lord say so!

Things to Ponder

Though it’s evident that the majority of Catholics have been misled by the false gospel and church traditions taught by their leaders, we must understand that there are those among them who have, indeed, accepted Jesus as their personal Savior. This would include some priests, bishops, cardinals, and hopefully even the Pope, himself. The problem is the stranglehold of the Catholic system itself, with the ultimate sword of excommunication dangling over their heads.

This is no different from the Jewish religious leader’s intimidation through the Pharisees and Sadducees over religious and non-religious Jews alike … before, during, and after the time of Christ. The New Testament tells us that many Jews, including priests, teachers, and even a member of the Sanhedrin (Nicodemus) believed in Jesus; but were reluctant to publicly express their faith in Christ, for fear of being expelled from Judaism—with all the privileges afforded by membership in this hierarchical system of extra-Biblical rules and regulations.

Unfortunately, many who bear membership in the Catholic Church and other organizations like it will miss the Rapture and suffer through The Great Tribulation. Unless, that is, “they call upon the name of the Lord to be saved” … by the grace of God alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone! Nothing else is needed, certainly not a baptismal entrance to and membership in any formal religious system. Baptism is like the wedding ring. The ring doesn’t marry us, it only shows that we are married. Neither baptism nor church membership saves us; instead it demonstrates to the world that we have been born-again from above … a rebirth that is as permanent as our physical birth!
